away from public glare, tying all the currents together.
for parallel connections, more current means more power! smiley

Hello Oga George,

Your quest for alternative energy source is quite encouraging and its a wake up call to some of us that have the potential but yet to get the will to delve into it. More grease to your elbow.

Please, how do you source the solar panels and the accessories. Do you purchase locally or abroad. It would be appreciated if you can give us the contact.

sonety2k,
you got mail.

sathob,
thanks brother. with the 2kw mark well in sight, i could well be selling power to my neighbors indeed very soon.

legit2qt,
with a little more effort, i hope to push beyond the outer limits of solar power. i hope someday you join me too?

I know about a good installer:

Brytesolar.com

Their prices are very affordable. The can install solar panels, solar water systems, visit their website or send them an email at admin@brytesolar.com

avocat,
thanks for the link. i have checked out the site and i'm impressed. although i think the guys are mainly for installation which i can handle myself. would have been more interested if they can get me a few solar components that i need badly.

@ George_D

I must comment u on ur recent achievement.
As u know me, am a man with too much queations.

How much is a or (pair) of solar module

What are the logics in connecting the Modules.
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by GeorgeD1(m): 12:57pm On Oct 22, 2010
jayron,
solar module prices depend mostly on size and make. personally i deal with sharp 200w and formerly they were so costly like 950 naira per watt but now prices are almost half of what they used to be. eg a 200w sharp solar module can be gotten for about N100k now or less.

the logic in connecting them is: series connection for adding voltage while current remains the same and parallel connection for adding current while voltage remains the same.
how you connect them will now depend on the voltage of your panels, the overall voltage of your battery bank and what you want to achieve. e.g if you have two 24v, 200w solar panels and a 48v battery bank, you must connect the two modules in series to make up 48v but if your using 12v, 80w modules, you must connect 4 modules in series to make up 48v without which your battery bank will not charge.

@george d

U sure make dis series connection explanation so easy. Following this thread, how i wish i was still in secondary school i would have made an A in physics.

twinskenny,
the money you spend now is like a 25yr savings account which keeps appreciating. imagine
what the cost of fuel per litre will be in another 10yrs? imagine what games nepa will be
playing with public power supply by then? your guess is as good as mine!

Keep it up guys
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by GeorgeD1(m): 12:15pm On Oct 29, 2010
spaceman,
that's the spirit!
you know, many people think of solar energy merely in terms of powering calculators and other small electronic toys but when you go in depth into this field you will realise that people are using solar power for much more than that.

imagine using a solar hotwater system to bath in your house? imagine using solar to power your airconditioner? all these are possibilities that come with increased knowledge.
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by GeorgeD1(m): 12:28pm On Nov 01, 2010
all,
sharp 80w solar panels now going for btw 40k to 50k! this is almost half the price compared to this time last year.
for those who have been planning to go solar, this may be your best time yet!
