Hello house, I recently stumbled on this page while looking for info about studying for PhD in USA.

I need advice on what I can go for.

EDUCATION

Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science - LAUTECH (2:2)

MSc in Environmental and Public Health in the UK (Distinction and best graduating student)

Publications: Five and two in indexed journal (PubMed)

Three years work experience in Nigeria and just started working in the UK as a Biomedical Scientist.

I'm interested in PhD in Infectious Diseases. Yale, Pittsburgh, Harvard, John Hopkins, Minnesota are the universities have seen so far offering this course.

Considering the fact that these universities are highly competitive, does anyone know universities offering this course or have an idea of how I can dig deep to get more less competitive universities offering this course.

Also, I'm yet to take the GRE. Do you know of any university that does not require GRE?

Lastly, any positive advice will be highly appreciated.

This is becoming a serious habit here: you got a distinction in your MSC but afraid of writing GRE. While there may be schools that don't require it but most serious schools will require it even if it's not required by your prospective dept. Abeg go write am jo grin grin

Yes. Your GRE score will help you narrow down the schools you can realistically apply to and stand of shot of getting in.

Not only that. Dramatically, you can procure a scholarship if you have a good GRE Score. It can be a life changer from dropping out of school.

Additional 5 offer have been added to the previous 10 and making it 15 discounted offer promo now. God bless all the benevolent guys behind this. Amen.

To all those who wants two offer when some haven't get one should try and understand that they can only get one because over 15 people sent me pm based on this offer and trust me I am still counting.

Also those who wanted me to add their schools of choice will have to do that themselves because I don't login to their Ets details, is the person that will make the payment who usually login and you people can do it immediately you get registration confirmation or 2 days to your test date.

Lastly the test registration should be done hopefully tonight US time and when you guys confirmed the registration is when I will forward out your cash to them.

To all those that sent me pm and i forwarded your details out and said to me that you will send payment after test registration, kindly check your email to confirm the test registration and fulfill your promise because 9 people test already paid for although just 5 people sent me cash ahead of the test registration and still have 6 more seat.

Another good news is additional 3 offer was added and the total offer is now 18 and out of this 18 slot, 9 slot already paid for...

9 more to go and am waiting for other with their details..

God will bless those benevolent people and you will never lack. Amen

Please what is wrong with the people here? I asked to know stuff about ETSU and I am termed unserious. I guess you guys did not understand where I was coming from. I just need to know someone that has passed through the process and can put me through. This is NOT my first admit, I have my TOEFL and GRE and I want to try again.

The essence of my question is to NOT make any mistake with application. Of course I know Google and their website but isn't the idea of this forum to help each other succeed?

I have given out information before to people I don't even know just out of my need to make sure that as I am winning, others are winning with me.

So WTF is wrong with what I asked?

The problem with your original post / question about asking to know everything about ESTU is that it is very broad hence why others have said google is the best place

Then here maybe if you have a specific question...also statement like the above is on the rude side

The problem is that most of the people here (i assume) have jobs to do and lives to live... that means everyone has limited time and cannot respond to every question. It does not help your case that you become belligerent because no one has answered you as promptly as you want.

There is nothing difficult about applying to US schools. Everything you need is spelled out on their website (serious schools) and should you have questions, they always provide an email address and phone number for a member of staff dedicated to answering such queries as you might have. Frankly, you don't need this website to apply to ETSU. I just checked their website and they have a very clear and detailed description of how to apply, what fees to pay, how the fees can be paid etc. So exactly what is your question?

1st interview slated for August 3rd, 6.30am

The visa officer was a lady..
V.O : good morning
Me: good morning ma'am
V.O: what are you going to do in the US
Me: I'm going to study at Madison college
V.O: what will you be studying
Me: It's a liberal arts and science program after which I'd major in Psychology
V.O: so tell me about the program
Me: it's general education is aimed at preparing students for whatever they'd like to major in after transferring credits to get their bachelor's degree in a 4year university.
V.O: so what would you do after getting this associate degree
Me: I intend on transferring the credits to University of Wisconsin, Madison since it's in affiliation with Madison college.
V.O: what subjects are you going to take
Me: maths, English, humanities, social and behavioural sciences, natural sciences (then she cut me off)
V.O: how many schools did you apply to
Me: 3...
V.o: name the other 2
Me: central Wyoming college and kutztown university of Pennsylvania
V.o: how many admitted you
Me: just Madison, I've not gotten any decision from cwc and KU wait listed me(which is the truth, although the next day, I got an email saying I've been admitted to cwc)
V.o: why this school
Me: it's tuition is very affordable, has a very friendly environment towards student of colour, it's class ratio is small hence creating a student-lecturer relationship
V.o: why would you want to spend thousands of dollars schooling in the US amidst the numerous school in Nigeria
Mesadsurprised though but had to answer) well, psychology is something I'm very passionate about and I'd want to really study it in depth both theoretically and practically, schools here in Nigeria do not really touch the practical aspect (cuts me short)
VO: and what makes you think the schools there do a lot of practical
Me: (taken aback but didn't show it) I've been in close contact with my international education program specialist from the school and she let me in on all I need to know
VO: who's sponsoring you
Me: my uncle
Vo: what does he do
Me: he's a medical doctor and a business man
Vo: (emphasizing) what does he do for a living, I know he's a medical doctor, what does he do for a living
Me: (went blank and said) he's into wholesale business of.... (she cut me short and started typing and then handed me the blue paper and said those words nobody would wanna hear

I highlighted the area that really killed your chances.

1. You're going to study at a community college
2. You're then transferring to a 4 year degree in philosophy.

There is nothing "practical" about philosophy that you cannot get in Nigeria. It's just that simple. Clearly the VO thinks this is simply a ruse to go stay in the US.

I know a lot of really loud folks here waffle on about being able to obtain visas to study at community colleges. But the fact is that these are in the very tiny minority. Most applicants to community colleges are refused visas... simple.

Exactly. In fact, I have stopped telling them the chance is slim.

If they can get a visa with cc.... kudos. And if they can't.... they should look for a 4-year school.

Sorry for your denial. Re-apply with a university degree and of course change your course of study to a good one. After that, PM some members here for interview, they will help you.

Next time, please do not say a medical doctor is also a business man for it doesn't make sense at all.
