Army Denies Alleged Summary Killing In Jos
From Madu Onuorah, Abuja

THE Nigerian Army said that the scene of summary killing allegedly perpetuated by its personnel during the last crisis in Jos, Plateau State, and circulating in the internet was "very disturbing," stating that the scene being alleged was "directly at variance with the standards by which it (Army) has been known over the years."

The Army described the video clips as "a wicked manipulation aided by application of current advancement in computer technology."

Director of Army Public Relations, Brig Gen. Chris Olukolade said in a statement Friday night that the video clip "was obviously aimed at embarrassing the Nigerian Army," while at the same time heating up the polity.

Olukolade noted that it has never been in the character of the Nigerian Army throughout its experiences either in Peace Support Operations (PSOs)abroad or in Internal Security Operations (ISOs) at home to unleash such acts of brutality and illegality on citizens, let alone carry out summary and extra judicial execution as presented in the manipulated video film."

The Army Spokesman added that its record of operations in Jos "rather confirms the Nigerian Army's exemplary character and belief in the rule of law. As done in similar operations, suspects were promptly handed over to the police for necessary legal action."

The statement by Gen. Olukolade reads: "The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a video clip posted on a news web site and put into circulation via cell phones, projecting a scene where Nigerian soldiers were purportedly shooting innocent civilians during the recent civil unrest in Jos, Plateau State. The Nigerian Army finds the scenes projected in this video clip as very disturbing, particularly as the scene presented therein are directly at variance with the standards by which it (Army) has been known over the years.

"The Army has investigated the allegations and has confirmed that the video clips in question were nothing but a wicked manipulation aided by application of current advancement in computer technology. It was obviously aimed at embarrassing the Nigerian Army while at the same time stirring up the polity.

"Indeed, the information available to the Army has made it clear that, the video film clips in question were not shot in Jos as was claimed. The persons referred to as soldiers were manipulated images and certainly not Nigerian soldiers. The vehicle depicted in the film was not one of those used by the Nigerian Army in the Internal Security Operation in Jos. Furthermore, the three-lane road in the clip does not exist in Jos. This is a challenge to those circulating this video clips to be honest enough to identify with it and tell the public the details of the background of those shots.

"The public is please advised to decipher between manipulated film shots and the reality of the tendencies of their own military. Indeed, it has never been in the character of the Nigerian Army throughout its experiences either in peace support operations abroad or in internal security operations at home to unleash such acts of brutality and illegality on citizens, let alone carry out summary and extra judicial execution as presented in the manipulated video film

I don't really know for sure if the civillians were innocent. But if they were part of the disturbance and the best and easiest way to restore peace was to execute them, then so be it.

Let me start by sending out my heartfelt condolonces to the families of the murdered people. As human beings, nobody will want to wish such a violent death to his enemy. Even Saddam Hussein was hanged in a humane manner and he was a well known murderer of his people. Having said that, let's settle down to the meat of the issue. I have always said and will continue to say that Nigeria is the most lawless country in Africa. The Nigerian Police and Army are nothing more than common thugs and murderers in uniform. Any standard which the Nigerian Army claims to have is a blatant lie and an insult to our intelligences. Mind you, i am talking about the common soldier and not the Officer Cadre. Combine that with the bloodlust, barbarism and blatant stupidity of the black man and you have Zaki Biam, Odi, Jos, Boko Haram etc. How many students have MOPOL killed in student protests at universities ? How many drivers have Federal Highway Patrol extorted money from ?? How many danfo drivers have been killed (shot like fowls) over common N20 bribe A typical policeman cannot write a simple application for leave talkless of expressing himself in a gathering. Its only in Nigeria that a serving Attorney-General of the Federation and Min Of Justice is murdered and nothing dey happen. I can assure you that its only in Nigeria that you can shoot somebody in broad daylight in Ibadan and go to Abuja or even Lagos and act as nothing has happened. Have you ever seen a wanted poster in nigeria ? As long as the nigerian army, police continues to recruit the morally bankrupt individuals of our society, NEVER trust any nigerian uniformed personnel.
