Many people have actually preached my mind concerning this issue, i would like to state my pieces of advice which i thing will be beneficial to you if you adhere to them strictly.
1. Go and confess your sin to any minister of your church(not your supposed pastor), tell him to pray with you for God's mercies to have allowed the devil sift     your mind because of that pea-nut you called large sum.
2. Pay your Tithe as required by God, that is 10% or even more. Mal3:8-12
3. Ask God to show you favour concerning the apartment you desire, Ps37:4, Matt7:7, Phi1:6
4. Go for one year rent instead, who knows, your next level of having a house of your own could just be one year or less, Jer32:27,Dan11:32b.

That will be ok for now, God has given you an opportunity to sow into your future and you are toying with it, There are no jokes with things of God, it is yes, yes or no, no.If you have decided to be His Child, please continue to be, do not allow anyone or things of the world to distract you because the love of the world is enmity with God, Luke9:62,Rom12:2.

I just have few questions and if you can answer them honestly then it rest the case for me, am not going to ask you to either pay for your rent first or do the tithing, either way you still have your choice, but be truthful with these questions and you will know what to do thereafter;

1)  What would you have done if the "supposed Money" did not come, still pay your rent anyway or not??
2)  How come the "supposed" money looks exactly as the amount meant for the rent, at least you made us want to believe so?
3)  If the "supposed money was far less than the rent (Say 70% less) what will be your reactions?
4)  How come you are hearing more of your pastor's teaching on tithing now than before?
5)  If you use the money for your rent, Will it change who God is?
6)  If you decide to give your tithe out of the money, Will it change who God is?

Well, I don’t know how sincerely you are on this topic, but the truth is that you pay your tithe first, you can pay 1.5 yrs house rent; you will be surprised that the landlord will collect the 1.5 yrs from you.  10% of any money that comes to our hand is not ours, it belongs to God;Mal.3:10 is true, just start and trust him and see what will happen.  We all are sometimes tempted when we see huge money, we tried postpone our tithe because, we have a lot of needs we want to meet with it, but, as a Christina, we need to discipline our self to obey God as per our tithe. He gave you the strength/brain to do the work, while not give him just 10% and you take 90%.  What the pastor does with the money is not your problem, your problem is obeying God commandments, better still, if you think your church is so rich they don’t need the money or the pastor talk too much about tithe and you believe he wants to buy another Jeep, why not look for a smaller church were the word or God is been preached and you know they have need, pay that money their and you will see the fruit of your money/labour, being used to buy chair, musical instrument or anything their needs are and you will have confidence that you have touched life.

As per the remaining house rent; put God to test and you will be a testimony  and never eat your tithe again.

@post,you are a baby christian.However,u know just what to do.Things like this is between you and ur God.Is a pity that some people dont know who their pastors are.Is one thing to pay ur tithe and is another for ur tithe to be accepted.The bible says you should give willingly and cheerfully.Even if the pastor like let him hammer on tithe for the whole year,if am in ur shoe,i wont even move,if things get out of hand,i will leave his church.It is possible he has already drawn his budget base on the money u are suppose to pay for tithe.My conclusion is that if you can pay the tithe now becos of the peculiarity of ur situation,please try and pay later.

I do not tink we should blame any pastor here, the guy shouldknow what to do. In Islam for example, you can only pay tithe when you are not owing any one and u have some amount left at end of one year. I think you should take care of your rents first cus God is understanding.

Pay ur tithe with faith and God will open channels for u to pay ur house rent or even buy ur own house. your faith determines what you get. if u ignore God God will ignore u. this takes a high level of spiritual maturity.

it depends on how convinced you are. Tithes works, but most pastors elaborates more on it because of the benefits accrued to them when people pay their tithes. If  paying for your house rent can't wait for a while, please pay for your house rent immediately, don't pay tithes if you are paying because your Pastors insists you to pay. Your conviction should be your guide.
