Please, let a Yoruba person person be kind enough to interpret from Yoruba to English, the poetic lyrics of St. Janet. I read that she is a singer, a married woman that sings poetic sexual songs. Many are calling for her music to be banned. Let us understand what she sings before commmenting

I am not a Yoruba! What drew my attention to her was the Lagos State Assembly decision to ban the music. It is also reported that she mentioned Christ Embassy and two other Churches as SINNERS'CHAPEL. No matter how raw the lyrics are, someone in the nairaland will be bold to interpret, even if the IBO GIRL will have to do it!

There is no need of going to confession for the sin you did not commit, talkless of heavy penance. If the Priest is a Yoruba, simply give him the CD, Faaji Pass by St. Janet and the Priest will gladly intrepret for us! But from what people are saying, pls get an ambulance ready, in case the man of God have a heart attack!

The Priest have been hearing things worse than the lyrics in his confession box. I think giving it to him is a venial sin which can be atoned by one decade of rosary, 3 our father and one prayer for Nigeria in Distress. If I understand Yoruba, I would not have been begging nairalanders for this favour! well as a linguist, I undertand and write only Igbo and English plus faint Hausa. so my IBO GIRL do me this favour and I will book MASS OR NOVENA for you!

A bu m ezi nwaafo Igbo choro I bara onwe ya na ezi na ulo ya ulu!

^^^^ Tpia, and her contempt for Muslims, na wa oo.
How many times have Obesere and other Yoruba musicians messed with Islamic songs, what has happened? Kuli awusu oba idan , Mo gba iyawo ananbi, bla, bla, bla, what happened to them, when Jide Kososko made movies called "Amina eleha",  and "Iya Alhaji" or Asewo to re Mecca and the rest.

Remii and his contempt for Christians. na wa oh. ( I've noticed your strong extremist views which you try to keep on the downlow since you're more into "internet surveillance"wink

So these artists you mentioned used words like oko, obo, oyan and graphic, and lurid, vulgar intimacy scenes all set to Meccan imagery?

where are you reading contempt in my post or are you aloy emeka and his cronies.  I dont appreciate cowards like you who leave your actual confronters and start splitting hairs on people you think you can ride.

If you want me to show contempt for Muslims I can oh!

Next thing you'll tell me is there's no religious intolerance in Nigeria.

I repeat- the woman is getting away with what she's doing because she used Christian lyrics. The day she does the same for Islamic songs, she'll run to various embassies for refugee visa after "they" place a fatwa on her head.

"Mo gba iyawo anabi" which means I stole someone's wife, is the same as ten inch long manhood?

negative publicity from who. who in the world understands the contents of the song apart from the Yoruba people. who even cares?
Re: St. Janet Poetic Yoruba Lyrics by Nobody: 6:39am On Feb 11, 2010
^^ you'll be surprised where this song (and the artist) will pop up and in which context.

their lackadaisical attitude will get Yorubas nowhere. The ones on Nairaland especially seem not to know they're the frog in the pot.

of course many of them may have sold their souls and families for filthy lucre.

Re: St. Janet Poetic Yoruba Lyrics by k4kenny(f): 1:52pm On Feb 11, 2010
i've heard about her music but i've never heard any of her tracks. are the lyrics that raw?
Re: St. Janet Poetic Yoruba Lyrics by Nobody: 7:47pm On Feb 11, 2010
havent been able to find the lyrics either, but it seems her songs have a lot of over-graphic imagery and she goes to great length to describe the Instruments, sex acts, etc.

Like lifting themes and language wholesale from nairaland sexuality section.

And all set to commonly used Christian tunes. Of course its a free world and she's shot herself to fame and notoriety by her actions, but that doesnt mean people dont have a right to express their disapproval of her work.
Re: St. Janet Poetic Yoruba Lyrics by rotimy(m): 11:08am On Feb 12, 2010
@IBO GIRL & OTHERS
I don't care whether she used background of Christian, Islam, Hindu, Buddaa, OOO, Eckancar, Judiasm or Ifa religious songs! My only desire is to read the lyrics in order to judge her. Where the Yorubas in this section? Rise up and paste the lyrics

Re: St. Janet Poetic Yoruba Lyrics by benzion72(m): 7:46pm On Feb 13, 2010
I see St Janet song as a product of poverty that is biting hard in our society. If she as sang a christian song, hymn, and worship and what have you nobody will will care to listen to it. But because she went down to what all of us do daily which we normally cover then we are all shouting. The lady is just smiling to the bank on everybodys noice.
Re: St. Janet Poetic Yoruba Lyrics by maedan(f): 11:25pm On Feb 13, 2010
Calling herself St. something is in itself looking for trouble, since she is far from a Christian if her lewd lyrics are anything to go by. Cheap fame-seeking I guess.
Re: St. Janet Poetic Yoruba Lyrics by Remii(m): 5:47pm On Feb 14, 2010
What the woman did in just going far above what others before her has attempted to do or  as they say in Performance Engineering, do what has been done in a new and “better” way.
Jesters in Yorubaland have always been turning popular musical tracks in funny ways for entertainment. This has been going on since 70s by trio of Jacob, Aderepuko and Papilolo.
Many musicians tend to sing corruptly too, for instance, the name Pasuma, is a name of an aphrodisiac before the advent of Viagra!! He, Pasuma, and Obesere shot into limelight by singing corruptly. It just that vulgarity of this woman’s work is unprecedented, not even Fela. However, tried not to pronounce woman’s private part by name through the music.

The woman should not take all the blame and bashing, she is just a lead singer; instrument and chorus seemed dominated by men.
She claimed to be born into C&S , married a CCC man and her producer, who could be heard saying so many unprintable words underground, she said is member of Christ embassy.
I think the work was more like the case of Paris Hilton, when private work got leaked and they decided to release and take economic advantage also.
Two musicians that should sue her for all the revenue from the CD are Ayefele and KSA, the woman bastardized some of their most successful tracks.
She used both C&S /CCC type of gospel songs and other contemporary tune like Juju and Fuji. A non Yoruba speaking listener may even take her song for Gospel music, lol. The aspect that beats my imagination most is towards the end where she claims to be praising God then go on comparing God against some of her patrons and preferred copulating positions, that side seems, to me kinda blasphemous.
