I will cut to the chase, just this morning this thread: Nigeria in the brink of another civil war? Aljazeera. made front page by wrongly attributing an opinion and article not held and penned by Aljazeera media to it.

This is falsehood because Aljzeera did not author such an article in fact the article is authored by a Nigerian. The following are issues that can be verified:

1. The author's name is Fisayo Soyombo was the pioneer editor of Nigerian online newspaper TheCable. He regularly posts opinion piece on Nigeria and sometimes this is posted on Aljazeera. Currently he is editor for international Centre for investigative journalism. Meaning he does not even work for aljazeera.

2. More importantly Aljazeera clearly indicated they do not hold such a opinion in the said article which clearly the moderator or whoever reposted the op cleverly left out to give the false impression that it is the view of aljazeera holds such opinion. Here are their words

The views expressed in this article are the author's own and do not necessarily reflect Al Jazeera's editorial policy.

Nairaland should not become synonymous with fake news and dumbing down its users. Such behavior of not properly vetting a third party article and wrongly attributing opinions to news media must stop henceforth. The gulf crisis unfolding currently had it roots in mimisinformation and attributing opinions to persons who never made such statement.

Do not think your disclaimer will protect you from the consequences of posting false information of this nature as you ultimately determine what goes on the front page.

You ended up saying nothing. Aljazeera can take it down from their website if they don't want to be a party to it

Learn to think if you can't reason learn to shut up. Aljazeera didn't author the article a Nigerian did. I know lies are a constant staple for your kind but it doesn't mean shamelessness should also follow. ..

For the past 5 months now, Nairaland and fake/slanted news have been inseparable.

SEUN should read this and take heed!

Mods who should know better than to push unverified and instigating news and posts to the front page should be replaced.

Enebeni leave the onuras (ipods) alone to them anyone with a contrary opinion is an Afonja what an ignorant set of people. Nigeria is more than the 3 major ethnic groups. Vedaxcool I know the article was penned down by a Nigerian but they are fond of pushing an agenda by using a third party.
