Suspected Boko Haram members including women and children, arrested by Cameroonian Security forces have been "brutally tortured", the Human rights group says.

The group alleged in a report that the cases which happened between 2013 and 2017, claimed the lives of many detainee.

Cameroon has denied the allegations, saying Amnesty was being used as a Boko Haram "propaganda tool".

According to the Country's Information Minister, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the security forces were "fighting to protect the physical integrity" of Cameroon and there was "no need for our army to kill innocent civilians".

The Islamist group, based in neighbouring Nigeria, has killed more than 1,500 civilians in Cameroon since 2014, and abducted many others, Amnesty said.

The report added that people suspected of supporting the militants were often being detained without evidence. Amnesty urged both countries to investigate the allegations.
