MY EXPERIENCE!
If ever there is something a Christian should desire, it should be the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. I grew up in Deeper Life. I have heard & prayed much about it but never got Baptised. At a time, I got discouraged about the whole thing.
However, my thoughts & conclusion received a blow when I got the experience in August 2008. I attended a program organised for those who wanted to be baptized in the HolyGhost in a church in Oshodi, Lagos. After the program, there was a laying on of hands. Some people started speaking in tongues right immediately hand was laid on them. But for me, there was nothing. I did not doubt God, yet there was no evidence of Baptism. But 3 days later, I woke early morning to have my devotion. Then suddenly, I started speaking a language I did not understand and learn. I tried to control it. Immediately it dawned on me that the experience is here. The experience is great, awesome and real. It is not learnt or taught. It is auction to function for God. Don't be deceived, it is not a hoarse or a gimmick. It is the comforter Himself in you. God bless you!
AMEN AMEN AMEN.

This thread is one that I just was inspired to write. When we look around Christianity. We see differing view about what Baptism of the Holy Spirit is. Please do not comment as though you have experienced the baptism. Your questions about this subject are welcome and peradventure you are interested in the baptism, kindly follow or mention one of the names below in the comment section.

We advise that you do not give a misguided view about what you feel the subject should be about. Thanks

P.S. I said testimony not assumption. Thanks

Scriptural reference for personal research

First, you need to understand God promised the disciples the baptism, evidently all Christians. So, the moment you are born again, you have every right to partake of this glorious inheritance.

These verses gives us a picture of it in the old testament Exodus 11:24-27, 1 samuel 19:18-24 and Joel2:28-31

These verses shows us what's Gods promise to them who would believe. Matthew 3:11,

John 14:26-(note this words in this verses- teach you all things-future past and present; bring all things to your remembrance-past ),

John 16:13(guide you into all truth-present, past and future; show you things to come-futurisitic).

Other verses are Acts 1:5, Acts1:8,

Biblical ways to receive the baptism

Acts 2:2-4(they received it while praying),

Acts 8:14-17(laying of hands) notice they have been baptised yet not one single of those that did water baptism received the baptism until the coming of Peter and John v12-13, and v16

Acts 10:44-48(they received it) notice they have not done water baptism v47-48

Acts 19:1-7(laying on of hand, note they were evangelist, evidently born again, but yet they were not endewed yet. They preached John the Baptist: they were baptised by water yet they do not have this experience)

For more references see Romans 8:26-27, Jude 1:20, lemme shock you, do you know the Holy Spirit through Paul commands that we should not forbid to speak in tongues-1 corin 14:39, now here is my problem with many people, they say all sort of thing, this and that, now, if I asked nicely, if you were interested and you feel I was forcing you to say some gibberish that I mutter to you and you mutter the same back to me, then you know its fake, but if you happen to speak it as the spirit direct or gives you utterance, then, you know this thing is real.

At least, Paul said, I speak in tongues more than ye all. All of those tongues couldn't be in the church, and also, if you were in the church, all we want is, do not disturb with your tongue, let it be between you and God. So evidently, if someone happen to teach you those tongues, then, you can pull back immediately, they leave. And by the way, how would you know you are speaking in tongue when there is no one to guide you.

When hear about the baptism of the Holyspirit alot of questions arise in my mind and am always quite troubles because i truly want to be a partaker.

Firstly, whats the criteria of been baptized by the Holyghost.
Secondly, can you have the holyspirit and not be giftes with the speaking of tongues. Am quite sure ive given my life to christ. Though sometimes i doubt myself and even pray for a sign that am truly saved.
When i pray at times i fill an electric or shivering in my spirit that i cant control a wonderful feeling too. But i get totally confused about myself when i hear people speak in tongues and am just there saying my prayers from my heart to God.

Please I nees help as I dont want to deceive myself and i want to grow in christ in truth and in spirit.

I didn't want to deceive myself too.
Here are the qualities of the 120 that received Holy ghost baptism in the upper room of Acts 2: they were disciples of Christ, they had been with Christ. They were also in one accord. No disunity. They had been praying and waiting for ten days. So the criteria are: a life of victory over sin, unity and peace with man and prayers of consecration. Otherwise you will join those that repeat gibberish and go back to a life of sin and immorality.

When the disciples were baptized, they spoke in languages which native speakers could understand, not gibberish. I have heard an Igbo praying in fluent Yoruba and I know of a white lady who spoke Ibibio.

Read Acts 2 and sincerely ask God for that type of experience. It may require you making restitution/apologies to those you offended. You may need to spend some time in earnest prayer seeking the experience.

My experience: I had asked God to forgive my sins and God did just that. I had/have the joy of salvation. I spent time asking God to so thoroughly clean me so that I would be a worthy vessel for His Spirit to dwell in and I felt His cleansing power. I noticed that I wasn't committing the sins I used to commit. I asked Him to baptise me with the Holy Spirit and heaven opened. I can't describe it because I felt like going to heaven that day. I spoke a definite language but no one was around to interpret it for me, but it was definitely different from the gibberish I had spoken before confessing and forsaking my sins

I hope this helps

True Story..

I was like 12 or 14 at the time. I grew up in a very religious home. Pops was a Pastor (Not the church owner just one of the junior pastor that only controlled a house fellowship). I came from a home where we all woke up early to have morning devotion and everybody had their day to read an entire chapter and preach it to the whole house before school or breakfast. By the time I was in SS1, I had covered the entire Bible at least twice. grin All these things put together and I found myself as a Born again Christian.

These things influenced me so much I was preaching to everyone, everywhere. In fact I was really good at it that I even started preaching at school morning devotion. My nickname became Pastor. grin So seeing how I was all into the Christian Game, Pops decided I should get baptised. So I was enrolled in the Baptism class. Attended the duration, wrote and aced the test and on the day of the water Baptism, the whole class was taken down to a river side all dressed in white and dipped in the water.. Yeah! Madcow was semi-official.. One more baptism and I was good to go.

Holy Ghost Baptism required another class that lasted a week and at the weekend, we were all gathered in a room for the Holy Spirit Baptism. On the fateful day, the instructions were that we were to come fasting 2 days before (12 hours fast) pray fervently until the spirit came down. That we would all be overtaken by the spirit and that we would just loose control.

The Spirit Baptism started like around 10am on that Sarturday. No long talk just prayers.. I have never prayed that long and hard before in my life. 1 hour into the prayers and I had run out of things to say.. But I just kept praying. Guys, by 1 am we were still praying without break. I was by this time struggling to keep up as I wondered WTF are these guys still saying to God for 3 hours. I was tired, hungry, weak and almlst delusional. Next thing Sister Rebecca (not her real name) just started talking in some funny Language. Rebbebebebebe, Rabababababa,.. grin The Biitch was rolling on the floor acting like a crackhead who just overdosed on cheap meth. The Pastor had started saying yes!! The Spirit has finally arrived. It seemed like it was the sign for all to enter Gear 5.. Bro Alfhonsus (again not his real name) went off o his own gibberish rants Toytatatatatatataya Hyundaidaidaidaidai.. grin Wow! I felt this shiit just got real yo! The Holy Spirit just entered the building. By this time, they were taking names of those who had started acting like this. I guess those were the ones that were now confirmed to th spirit filled.

So spurred by everyone around now speaking in tongues one after the other, I pushed my tired body on and staƙted praying even harder. Long story short. 30mins after Sister Rebecca kicked off this weird behaviour and speaking in tongues shiit, almost everyone in the room was doing the same except me. You couldn't understand a single word anybody on the room was saying.. It was just [/i]Kikikkikikikikiiii Bobobobobobo rararararaarara panapanapanapanapana grin I really didn't want to fake it, but after more than 4 hours of praying, it was clear to me that the Holy Spirit was not going to possess me. And mind You, I was actually a Born again. I was not sinning at all.. I had stopped stealing my mother's money, lying, taking meat from the pot, broke away from my squad in school and all that shiit. Now seeing as the whole room was now acting some type of way except me, I didn't want to be seen as the Biitchass in the room so I just started talking rubbish and shaking like a tambourine..

Seeing as I was the last to be possessed by the Holy spirit, the prayers finally ended, we were all congratulated on our Baptism and dismissed.

As soon as I left the building, I backslided and I have never looked back. The Holy Spirit tried to embarrass a Nigga and I don't take that shiit lightly. angry

*wipe tears* grin grin grin This post is just so hilarious.

Hier, beautiful thread.

Speaking in tongue is not the only manifestation of the Holy Spirit. It's a misconception that you must speak in tongue. It's a beautiful gift that you can desire and be given. What do I mean? Mark 16:17-18 Jesus said

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Let me list the the signs Jesus said will follow those that believes in His name:

1. Cast demon

2. Speak in tongue

3. Confront serpent

4. Unkillable

5. They shall lay hands on the sick

Do we as believers manifest all this signs? If I manifest only 1 does that make me an unbeliever?

Even at the point where Jesus was about to be nailed to the cross, the Holy Spirit went on a sabbatical leave in order for Him to fulfill his purpose.

What's my point? Speaking in tongue is an important gift but it's not a must and it must not be forced.

It was the first all night apart from cross over service I attend,i detested all nights but after much persuasion from a friend I went, I was newly invited to the church then and everything seemed strange and nice too. It was just worship all through after a little preaching by the pastor, we all held hands and lifted our voices to God and it was electrifying, no one was laying hands and there was no instrument and all of a sudden I opened my eyes and everyone was on the floor including me, I was totally perplexed because I always believed those things were staged, and I spoke in other tongues as the spirit gave utterance, I can't explain the feeling or experience but it was just amazing, I felt like a child lol and I ended praying in tongues through out that night,,,, that experience changed my whole life.

I like you Sir, comparing denomination with what is expressly written all over the Bible. Don't you think its more misguiding when we hinder people from coming closer to God all in the name of denomination. I'm not against denominations, but when a fact is proven from the Bible to you that would benefit you, put denomination aside. Because the person that started denomination is also using some Bible standards and he might not be against the Bible.

My point, the Bible is the standard not denomination, Eph4:11-13

speaking in tongues helps you pray longer. more so, tongues help you pray as God would like you to have prayed. because it is not you who pray, but the holy spirit praying through you.

Romans 8:26-27, 1corin 14:2,14-15, well, about v shivering, is it like cold or sth. I would get to you, cause you seem like you have received or lemme use,had the opportunity to receive the baptism, just that, you might not have known too much about how the gift operate. probably, you might end up in a more confused state after speaking in tongues, because, to be sincere, the devil was always telling me when I started speaking in tongues that I was saying rubbish. But, I usually notice that when I try to stop, I still feel like its not self speaking, until I overcame.

Many people do speak in tongues, but they eventually they get home and they begin to wonder what rubbish they are saying and they stop, but it would naturally come back when they gather around people who speak in tongues.

Accepted the Bible is the Coded code to the ACCURATE TRUTH, my point, amidst all places of worship where the Bible is used, rather supposedly used as a standard would you convince yourself of the accurate knowledge of the truth? If yes,go on if no Let the Holy Spirit guide you into this TRUTH made manifest in our time.. A tip, as a Bible scholar your expectations is seeing our Lord Jesus Christ on that day right, what do you think HE will do? If you have my thoughts in mind now, that's where the standard, guide,i mean the Bible will lead you to... Where we shall all be one flock under one shepherd, One Lord, One Father, One baptism and Guide of all(Even Our ALMIGHTY FATHER)but why can't we identify this truth manifest in our time, it is simple: man's greed and sinfulness is making this place not visible to us also the restricting factor to this, even manifest in our time is the deceitfulness of the world especially the impostors claiming to use the guide(False pastors and preachers) .. I hope I am clear, if you are not, I will not be surprised cos what I speak is a mystery it is the TRUTH BUT HOW WELL WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO ACCEPT TRUTH...

My prayers that your spirit man be awakened to give you insight into this spiritual revelations... May God bless our purpose and guide us to the accurate knowledge of the truth to have fellowship directly to THE OMNNIPOTENT OMNIPRESENT AND OMNISCIENCE GOD through the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, now and forever .....Now this is where the guide will lead you to where the mystery of the kingdom of God shall be shown plane.

I was like "which kain language be this" my mouth was just moving and I still remember how my first tongue speaking sounded..."shiropapa shiropapa...."

But today I speak very deep tongues and I also have a gift of interpreting my tongues.

Being born again is being Baptized of the Holy Ghost. If you are not baptised your not born again because you don't have God's seal of redemption.

Water baptism is a physical demonstration of the spiritual manifestation of Jesus baptising His church in the Spirit and used to reveal Christ it has no eternal value to the believer.

Seek God's gift, ask for the Holy Spirit that purifies
