The Spanish football giants have agreed a world record fee of €180m with Monaco for the transfer of highly-rated striker Kylian Mbappe, say reports in Spain.

According to fresh reports from Marca, the French champions will receive €160m up front with a further €20m in add-ons in a deal which dwarfs the fee Manchester United paid for Paul Pogba last year.

Zinedine Zidane, an idol of Mbappe growing up, reportedly personally contacted the player and his family to reassure him over all aspects of the deal, with the French striker set to sign a six-year contract worth a reported €135k per week.

Alvaro Morata’s move to Chelsea and James Rodriguez’s two-year loan move to Bayern Munich has freed up funds and attacking squad places at the Bernabeu, with Mbappe being assured of a significant first-team role.

Monaco had originally demanded €190m but did not want to sell to rivals Paris Saint-Germain while the player did not wish to join Manchester City, the other major club interested.
