Hello Nairalanders, apart from staying in hotels or air bnb's in the US for holidays, duration of 2 weeks to 1-2 months what other alternatives do one have for a good accomodation that can still afford you to cook and all. Do Nigerians in the States let out their apartments or room for shortlets? Does anyone here have good or bad ecperiencea about these and how good is air bnb especially since you are black and most of the home owners are whites (racism) factors. Comments, advises, personal experiences and suggestions are welcome.

Go to Craigslist under Temporary accommodation or vacation homes. There are lots of options there depending on your budget.

Air BnB is not racist.

I'm not sure how you reached the conclusion that most home owners are white and racist, millions and millions use Airbnb every year. This approach of only looking for Nigerians or doing things with Nigerians limits your options and also mitigates the benefits of travelling which is to expose you to other ways of doing things.

I know Nigerians who will travel on "holiday" and just sit in some Nigerian friend or family members house, will not venture anywhere on their own unless the friend takes them. Look on Airbnb, read peoples reviews etc. and pick a place that works. Most of the time you don't even have to meet or see the owner as its all via the app and they send you codes to get the keys or enter the place.

You can also check VRBO, it's a competitor to Airbnb.

True words. Holiday shouldn’t be about sitting in another Nigerian’s home and eating the same food that you’ve been eating all your life in Nigeria. My experiences with Air BnB have all been good and almost the same as the reviews I read in each before renting.
Renting or shortletting a room is something that is almost never done anymore because the guests never seem to respect the owners rules and wishes.

You are limiting yourself to staying at a Nigerian's place.... that's difficult. A place for you to cook ... is pretty much renting an apartment.... most likely... a furnished apartment. Not difficult to find ... but the requirements will be a lot ... to locate you and hold you accountable ....which you may not have.
Your location is a major factor in everything . Below.... an idea of what to expect to pay for what you want in New York City... minus the Nigerian ownership part. This location is an excellent location for a visiting Nigerian. Price is per month.

You can definitely book an apart-hotel/serviced apartment, but they're not cheap. Lots of people have great experiences with Airbnb, so it's not necessarily as risky as you might think. Whatever you do, don't book a trailer (crime).
