Franklin Onyedika Onoura, a Nigerian student in Cyprus who was arrested by Turkish Cypriot police on Sunday for killing a 21-year-old Cypriot in an accident has been detained for three days on the order of a Turkish Cypriot judge after he appeared in a Nicosia Accident Court on Monday. Onyedika was arrested on Sunday by police after he hit a pedestrian who died on the spot at the Nicosia - Famagusta express road, with a rented vehicle. According to police report, the victim, a Turkish Cypriot identified as Barış Hakan, 21 was passing by on a pedestrian crossing, near the Yonca Crossing on the Famagusta main road in the early hours of Sunday morning when he met his untimely end. Also detained in prison and charged to court is Sam Valentine Okolie, who rented the vehicle with which Onyedika was driving in at the time of the incident, although he was not authorized to use the car. Onyedika had initially fled the accident scene with the damaged vehicle but returned to the scene on foot after hiding the vehicle in the garden of a drug factory about a mile from the scene, and was caught by the police due to his suspicious behavior. Judge Cenkay İnan presided over the case while prosecutor Ayşe Kaymak Şadi stood on behalf of the TRNC Prosecutor's Office. The presiding judge listened to police witness, sergeant Yasar Arkıner, who worked as a witness in the Traffic Branch of the Nicosia Police Department. Arkıner stated that the indictee Franklin Onyedika Onoura caused the death as a result of his carelessness. The police witness also indicted Sam Valentine Okolie who hired the rented car to Onyedika even though he had no valid license in the TRNC. Arkıner stated that the suspects gave voluntary testimony and demanded that he be kept under arrest, stating that statements should be taken and camera images be examined. Judge Cenkay İnan then ordered Onyedika to remain in police custody for three days while investigation continues. http://www.looknaija.com/2017/07/nigerian-arrested-cyprus-killing-21-years-old-accident-appears-courts-remain-prison-three-days/ mynd44 lalasticlala
