New Projects To Add 819mw Of Clean Power To National Grid By 2019 – Fashola by Ehiscotch(m): 12:24am On Jul 29, 2017
Nigeria’s minister for power, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has said that the country should add up to 819 megawatts (mw) of clean electricity to the national grid from a number of hydro and wind power projects under construction in four northern states – Kaduna; Niger; Katsina; and Nasarawa, OGN reports.

Fashola, said at the recent fourth presidential quarterly business forum in Abuja, that the projects are 10mw Katsina wind farm; 40mw Kashimbilla hydro power; 700mw Zungeru hydro power; 29mw Dadin Kowa hydro power; and 40mw Gurara hydro power plants, adding that they were all at various stages of completion.

Though Fashola could not precisely state when the clean energy projects would come on stream, he however noted that, “some of them will be completed this year; some will run into the first quarter of 2018; and some in 2019.”

We have the capacity to generate more than the average 5000mw.
Our power sector indeed is a mess: From generation to transmission to distribution.

819MW addition? 2019?
819 | 2019 | 419

Coming from a party that promised 40000MW by 2019? Oh well, magic can happen in two years ... 4000MW down (as always), 36000MW to go. Providing the remainder in two years should not be rocket science to the minister.

Fashola is trying, but he should shield off some ministries. To allow efficiency, and stop forming super minister.

I wonder why a lawyer should be minister of power. Solar energy is the way forward.

I dunno what to believe anymore, every project overtime has been reducing the national grid including billions of naira budgeted for the power sector for over 2decades.
The should just give us prepayed meters so we can be on PAYG,it their revenue drops because of inadequate supply, they will find alternative to constant supply.

I have a dream some day , we will have 24 hours uninterrupted power supply.
I still don't get it. We supply electricity to neighbouring countries who enjoys almost 24 hour power supply and we can't boast of constant power supply.

Mere 800 MW is making news,

I hope there are no foreigners on nairaland reading this news, this is embarrassing.

Nigeria is like the ostrich that buries its head in sand, trying to avoid reality.

Until they remove that antidevelopment executive and concurrent list from constitution, nothing will work.

They should allow state governments and private sectors to generate and transmit power.

It is a shame that nobody is talking about wind and solar energy which is a heavy source of energy generation given the geographical location of Nigeria.
