You even got the answer wrong. You are not a good mathematician.

2 men are occupying a position and each of them signifies 15. Total number occupying that position is 30. You gat to think like a mathematician and stop claiming you know whereas u do not know.

The interviewer brought out that? And he said 36 was the answer . Stop misleading pple with ur itk

To start with, I don't understand your post. Try and make it understandable. I would have ignored you but for the sake of some others going through the thread, I would point out something.
Your question says 2 men while my question shows just one woman in eq1, one man in eq2.

Goodbye.

Why not use correct algebraic expressions. What sort of Mathematics are you propounding. You can't replace alphabetic algebraic expression with objects without putting the function between them
So replacing humans with the Naira, you are saying :
#500 + #500 =#1000.
How can you then say #500#500 = #250,000 and you want us to assume you mean #500 * #500 ?
No matter how you place them you have just two #500. Whereas if you had used x, y or z, xx becomes x squared.
How do you square objects (humans) ?
QED.

36 is the only sensible answer that question can have, given the current level of details.

There's nothing in the pic to indicate that two men standing together is not a sum but a multiplication. If you want to imply multiplication in cases like this, you either use the multiplication sign or the dot notation.

It's against good old common sense to even assume that if I hold two 100 naira notes together, I have 1000 naira and not 200 naira.

2x is 2 mltiplied by x.

xx is x multiplied by x

verygudbadguy:
OK lemme drop the solution.

Let's make the woman x and the man y
x+x= 12.... Equation 1
2x=12
x=6

y+y=30
2y=30
y=15

From equation 2,
y.y+6
15*15 + 6
225+6
=231
Congrats to everybody who got it right. It means you were good in primary school.
To those who failed it, means u were below average in elementary maths. grin

And those guys that modified after seeing the correct answer, you are on your own. cheesy

this thread is embarrassing. So if I hold two 100 naira notes together, it becomes 100 * 100 because they are placed side by side? Who taught you that?

This is like the word problems we did as kids, only in picture form. It's like saying if two men can eat 30 wraps of fufu and two women can eat 12 wraps, how many wraps would 2 men and a woman eat? I don't know why the majority choose to abandon common sense and follow the crowd.

Two men standing together does not resolve to man squared in any part of maths. The 3rd picture resolves to 2x + y. If they have 15k each, together it would be 30k, not 225k. If they each weigh 15kg, together on the scale, it would be 30kg not 225kg.

In quantitative analysis, when you place several objects together, they are summed not multiplied. If you want to indicate multiplication at least use dot notation.

If you doubt me, try the puzzle below if your 'two-objects-together-are-squared' logic wouldn't fall flat on its face.

Bro, when 2 variables are placed side by side, it means multiplication. For instance, xx means X multiply by X.

If we are asked to value of xx when x=5, what it means is 5*5 and not 55

Let ice cream be x, burger be y and chips be z
From eq 1, x+x+x=30, 3x=30, x=10
From eq 2, x+y+y=20, 10+2y=20, 2y=20-10, 2y=10, y=5
From eq 3, y+z+z=9, y+2z=9, 5+2z=9, 2z=9-5, 2z=4,z=2

To solve for eq 4, substitute the value of x, y and z into:
y+z+x
5+2+10=17

To proof:
From eq2, x+y+y=20, 10+5+5=20

To proof further;
From eq3, y+z+z=9, 5+2+2=9

MaRK YOU, WHEN YOU ARE DEALING WITH VERBAL REASONNING, YOU DONT APPLY STRAIGHT MATHEMATICAL THEORY.

IN MATHEMATICS THERE IS SOMETHING WE CALL YANNMATISM THOERY AND THIS IS APPLICABLE IN VERBAL/QUANTITATIVE RESONNING.

wrong. Poor attention to details. Look carefully. There are two pairs of chip packs in equation 3, that is, two pack of chips together added to another two packs of chips. It's the same as the two men side by side that you guys called a square and not a sum.

If you apply the same square logic here,
eqn 3 would be:
y + zz + zz = 9
5 + z² + z² = 9
2z² = 9 - 5 = 4
z² = 2
z = sqrt(2) = 1.414

but if you apply the sum logic,
eqn 3 becomes:
y + 2z + 2z = 9
5 + 4z = 9
4z = 4
z = 1

Which one makes more sense to you? 1.414 or 1?

This bolded is why I don't like to comment on here. Anyways, I have not even checked the picture. I need not because I don't appreciate people talking down.

From your argument, did you see two different men in the one I posted. This is supposed to fun and at d same time educative but I don't see all that.
