Shewa was a historical province that was located in central Ethiopia. It was the frontier of Aksumite empire during the decline of Aksumite and the was a very important province during the Ethiopian empire.

• Emperor Yekuno Amlak, 1270-85 AD (reigned)

- He was the one who founded or restored like most say the so called Solomonic dynasty.
- He was born in Bete Amhara province (present day south Wollo), but he made his capital when he assumed power in Tegulet, Shewa.

- His reign is remembered with the Jihad of Ahmed Gragn against Ethiopia. The Oromo ppl also started their expansion into Ethiopia.
- His reign marked the rapid decline of Ethiopia empire the next 3 centuries until the coming of emperor Tewodros II in mid 19th century AD.
