Like most things, the use of a food dehydrator also calls for some rules and regulations. Following are some of the important pointers to keep in mind in order to avoid any room for food spoilage while also speeding up the drying process.

DOS:
• Slice the food into ¼ inch strips or slices before placing them on the trays inside the food Freeze Dried Strawberries. Doing so will make sure that the maximum quantity of food is exposed to the dryer’s heat and air flows.
• Evenly and carefully spread these slices on the food dehydrator’s sheets. This is also to make sure that the heat properly reaches the food and thoroughly strips it of any moisture content remaining behind.
• Frequently check the food items’ drying status. Remember not to conclude the drying process has been completed simply by testing one or two food pieces. This could be misleading since these items may have the closest to the dehydrator’s fan, resulting in a speedier drying as compared to the other scattered pieces. Rotate the drying trays once in a while to alleviate this.
• After drying out the food items, allow them to cool down at room temperature prior to sealing them in air-tight bags or containers. Allowing the foods to cool after dehydration will prevent them from’’sweating’’ regardless of their minimal moisture content. It will also make sure that no moisture is trapped inside the jars.
• Clean the food dehydrator with warm water once in a while, especially its bottom where bits and pieces of food may accumulate.
• Make sure you know what you are doing. This means you should have adequate knowledge of your food dehydrator as well the food you are dehydrating. Properly go through the guidelines printed on the machine’s user manual and pay special attention to the temperatures and time required to dehydrate by each food. Leaving the food for more or less than the recommended time will either result in excessive drying or spoilage respectively.
• Do thoroughly wash the edibles prior to dehydrating them.

DON’T’S:
• Don’t shy away from experimenting with various types of foods, food preparations and recipes.
• Do not try setting the temperature to the highest in hopes of a faster drying. This could result in hardening of the food; an impartial dehydration where the exterior will become hard, giving the impression of complete drying while the interior remains moist, resulting in premature food spoilage.
• Avoid dehydrating various kinds of food together. It is better to dehydrate vegetables with vegetables, fruits with fruits and meats with meats. Dehydrating beef jerky with bananas is clearly a silly move and may result in your fruits tasting like raw meat.
• Do not forget to dehydration date labels on the jars containing the dehydrated foods. Doing so will make things easier by helping you monitor their shelf life and age.
• Do not make the mistake of dehydrating food in a microwave oven.
