SoS… Foreigners cry out over immigration harassment, extortion in Ibadan

For a young girl, Douossée Modeste, who is from Republic of Benin, travelling other side of Atlantic in search of greener pasture could cost her and her family life time fortune that they may not soon recover from.

But on her right hand is option of popular Nigeria, though it is a neighboring African nation and cannot be compare to European states, economic wise.

To the 19 years of Modeste, there is no arm in trying survival elsewhere if going to western states would be an impossible mission, just as she held on to strong believe that luck could favor her in getting economic stability at neighboring Nigeria since entry in to the country is not as porous and cumbersome compare to crossing Atlantic.

As an uneducated Beninese, the only job offer available for the innocent girl was to serve as domestics servant at a food restaurant after her arrival to Ibadan where she would later meet other foreign nationals doing same nature of job.

But persistent victimization and extortion in less two months of her stay in Ibadan, by men from Nigerian Immigration Service, almost breath live out her fragile body, leading her to option of returning home, even though her mates, from other west African nations, who had been used to harassment from law enforcement agents, did their best to convince her to stay.
