The National body of ASUU had earlier directed a nationwide referendum to be conducted across different varsities whether the body should embark on a nationwide strike or not. This is coming after the Federal Government's failure to fulfill the 2009 agreement and 2013 memorandum of understanding(MoU).

The Vice Chancellor of the University Of Ibadan, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka has confirmed the rumors going around about majority of University Of Ibadan lecturers all voting for an indefinite strike.

He said “Branches of ASUU Nationwide apparently conducted a referendum yesterday on some of their outstanding grievances with the Federal Government. I learnt that in UI, majority voted overwhelmingly for a comprehensive, total and indefinite strike. ASUU National EXCO will meet over the weekend to collate the ballots from various branches. We pray for a divine intervention as it seems that’s the only thing now that can still possibly prevent a complete shutdown of the various campuses as from next week. We have our fingers crossed”.

We just have to wait whether there would be another ASUU saga or not.

This is one of the reasons UNILORIN remains best by far. Apparently most of the lecturers don't care if they embark on endless strike in as much as federal government can't meet their needs. It is so pathetic that students will suffer for this most.

How won't they vote for indefinite strike when they'll still get paid for the period they were on strike?.

Surely there could be better ways of resolving trade disputes aside from going on Indefinite Strike? But the Authorities are known to be as indifferent one way or the other and deaf as doorposts!

It's not surprising because most of them are part time, visiting and associate lecturers/professors in most of the private universities around.
So, strike for them is an avenue to make more money.
They care less about the future of the average nigerian student.
May God help us!

Na so, this one na till Thy kingdom come, this APC govt has bigger problems at hand, like making sure Baba remains on seat even when permanently residing abroad. These lecturers are on a long thing.
