On the evening of May 7, 2017, President Muhammadu Buhari left Abuja for what was announced as an “indefinite” medical vacation in London. With the President yet to return by August 16, he has now been away from the country for 100 days. This does not include the 49 days spent also in London early in the year, between the 19th of January and the 10th of March.

A lot has happened, within Nigeria, in this period of his recent absence, even as Prof Yemi Osinbajo has performed as Acting President. Below is a timeline of key events in the past 100 Days:MAY 7, 2017

82 Chibok Girls are returned to Nigeria from the captivity of Boko Haram, through the negotiation of the Red Cross and other organisations. President Buhari leaves the country the same Sunday evening for London, leaving Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in charge as Acting President who resumed on the 8th of May.

MAY 25, 2017

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo gives a speech at a ‘Biafra at 50’ colloquium in Abuja. On Democracy Day, four days later, he delivered a stewardship report on the achievements of the Buhari administration in its first two years.

JUNE 25, 2017

Presidency releases a one-minute audio of President Buhari in which he makes an Eid-el-Fitr speech in Hausa language. The audio is received negatively by the public.

JUNE 28, 2017

Thousands of people gathered at Umuahia at an IPOB rally in which Nnamdi Kanu addressed the crowd.

JULY 4, 2017

While Acting President Osinbajo is away at an African Union summit in Addis Ababa, the motion moved and supported by Senators Enyinaya Abaribe and Kabiru Marafa on acknowledging Bukola Saraki as Acting President is struck down by the Senate President.
