China's Online Court Heard Its First Case Yesterday by Denko2721987(m): 11:45am On Aug 20, 2017

The judge, defendant and plaintiff all met via video chat.

The Hangzhou Internet Court, a new online court in China that will hear internet-related civil cases, had its first trial yesterday. It was a copyright infringement case was between a novelist and a web company that offered her novel to online subscribers without her permission and everyone met via video chat. The judge and both sets of legal agents connected through the web from different parts of the country and the whole thing took around 30 minutes to conclude.

The whole process from beginning to end is done through the internet. The judge presiding over the cases is stationed in a Hangzhou-based courtroom where members of the public can watch a projection of the video feed. A computer program transcribes the trial. Anyone wanting to submit a case can file all required petitions and necessary documents online where they can also pay any fees. Court notifications are delivered online and anyone without a computer can use terminals made available at the courthouse.

China isn't the only country looking into online hearings. Canada recently launched an online tribunal for small claims disputes and the UK just began an online court pilot program. "The internet court breaks geographic boundaries and greatly saves time in traditional hearings," said Wang Jiangqiao, the online court's vice president.

* Wouldn't this system be welcomed for adoption in Nigeria to help make our judicial process efficient and more effective?? Oh, i forgot we are still battling with lots of infrastructural and technical problems such a energy and even network stability.. Too bad that a lot of countries (the ones we here in Nigeria would blatantly call atheistic ungodly countries) are positively advancing forward while Nigeria always seems lagging and dragging behind.. God help us..

While other countries are breaking new grounds in technological innovation, we in Nigeria and Africa are still stuck in the vicious cycle of primitive accumulation of wealth via looting and corruption. The shameless and hopeless elders and politicians who travel abroad see how things are done in more developed countries, don't give a damn about Nigeria. Even the youths who should be the hope of Nigeria are on Nairaland shouting afonja, developers, Igbo, skull miners and all that allied crap.

Make una kwantinue o. Shame on Nigeria.

Sometimes, I wonder if Nigeria is in the same planet with some of these countries. They seem to be going forward and we, backward.

We claim to be godly and religious. Ironically, the more the churches and mosques in Nigeria, the higher the crime rate, hypocrisy, tribalism and hatred. It's annoyingly funny.

No country (not even Israel, God's own country), can develop when religious centres are more than Industries. None. Nigeria won't be the first.

If somebody use Glo network lasan, before the defendant drop his evidence before the online court glo would still be on 2g and due to the delay might make the court sentence the defendant to death by hanging of balls
