The commander general, National Unity and Peace Corps, Dr Chinedu Nneji has disclosed that the corps will combat all forms of insurgency in the country including Boko Haram within the space of three months of presidential assent.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja yesterday, Dr Nneji said that he had developed strategy to combat insurgency in the country, adding that his blueprint as a chartered mediator will be fully implemented after the full take-off of the Nigerian Peace Corps.

Dr Nneji also stated that the corp will honour the invitation of American Peace Corps to work out existing working relationship which ensure a total peace in Nigeria.

He noted that the American Peace Corps  which was introduced by President John Kennedy has been in existence since 1961.

The commandant said Nigeria has a lot to learn from the American Peace Corps as they have gathered enough of experience in the area of peace, conflict resolution and mediation.

“Bear in mind that we have crisis peculiar to Nigeria before now and we noted them especially the Boko Haram crisis that has been begging for answer, while the Nigerian military has been doing so much in combatting the activities of boko haram, we will play our role.

“Now that National Unity and Peace Corps is now called Nigerian Peace Corps we would now move into the field and find out what their problems are and proffer amicable ways of resolving it without further loss of lives,’’ he said.
