Having to do everything for the disabled or aged ones could be stressful, burdening and time consuming especially when you have other appointments to meet up. Obviously, you get more worried when you are away as you think of what is currently happening around them and their reaction to things. Have you ever pondered on the solution to the uneasy life operations of the disabled?

Smart Home
Internet of Things offers opportunities to increase independence by reducing the need for personal assistance at home. Smart home is the residential extension of building automation and involves the control and automation of lighting, heating (such as smart thermostats), ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and security, as well as home appliances such as washer/dryers, ovens or refrigerators/freezers. Someone with mobility problems could control all their devices from a single smartphone interface. The blind that may not be able to use their phones however, they are not left out as IoT also offers voice control over electrical appliances. With all these put in place, individual facing physical disabilities might need less support, gaining more independence and autonomy.

Smart Wearable
Wearable powered by IoT technology can also make life far easier for people with disabilities. For example, there are smart watches which translate text, emails and other content into braille, allowing the blind to stay connected constantly. Special insoles has been developed which signal to the wearer (via vibrations) which route they should take to a destination. IoT offers a means of monitoring the health status of disabled remotely. So while at work or in school you could actually get information about their (disabled) current status.
In summary, Internet of Things offers a solution to the disabled and aged people by ensuring independency with regards carrying out some basic home operations. IoT also ensures proper monitoring of the aged ones remotely.
