Including the Philippines, Cameroonian and some western countries. This one issue Somalia is facing which led to pirates attacking foreign vessels. Govt should invest on the maritime. |

Nigeria leaders are crazy, why is Russia not fishing in her own waters and I am sure this people preserved their own water to come down to Africa to fish. They're fishing in your waters to export back to you idiots |

NothingDoMe: Maybe but it's a valid request considering the amount of money being lost. Most people here are too dumb to know these reports are valid. They didn't just pull this excuse out of their hats. |

NothingDoMe: You didn't read UN report on this. It's a well known fact they do. Lol speak on topics you know. arsenic33: They didnt give them licenses or else itouldn't be call illegal unreported unregulated fishing. They should make gaining credit easier for people to accrue those vessels. That wouldn't hurt. I think they just sell it their country with higher demand. If they do sell it back they just use neighboring country port then fish goes through land border. Pavore9: They probably are. Bunkering cost the government more according to them. Ibas said that spending more on the Nigerian Navy would save the country $4.4 billion from oil theft, $1 billion from illegal fishing and additional $6.70 billion from general insecurity annually. 1 Like |

There is the need to urgently commercialize the private security sector. Marine companies should be able to enagage localized security companies for protection while the government policies the defined areas. How can we deploy police men to oil plate forms,if we can create agencies anyway we want then there should be no difficulty creating a marine corps developed to man these while navy serves as backup. it makes no sense deploying military for specialised duties |

Blue3k:Read. It's not educating enough. Blames corruption. Talks of Security. Are they implying that the chinese and Russians finish the fish in the water? Doesn't answer my question on how many fishing boats we have in this country. |
Re: FG Blames Illegal Russian, Chinese Fishing In Nigerian Waters For Low Revenue by Blue3k(m): 5:00pm On Sep 10, 2017 |
NothingDoMe: It's hard to find the information that isn't old. The government doesn't seem to publish that data often. From what I know most Nigerian fishers operate with wooden canoes. The total number of vessels licensed for fishing in Nigeria was 235 in year 2005, 202 in 2006 and 201 in 2007. In 2007 only one was licensed to fish in the EEZ and it is yet to start. There is no information on vessels fishing either in the closed areas (nontrawling zone), fishing with illegal gear or fishing illegal species. Much of the illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing that goes on in West African waters is at the hands of Chinese vessels. Chinese companies have expanded operations in the region from 13 vessels in 1985 to 462 in 2013 Of 30 shipping companies registered in Nigeria in 2006 only five are still afloat. Captain Lube, a tall, scar-faced captain, says he is afraid to take his ship far from the shore. |
