Including the Philippines, Cameroonian and some western countries. This one issue Somalia is facing which led to pirates attacking foreign vessels. Govt should invest on the maritime.

Our Govt. said the country doesn't have the resources to acquire fishing vessels. 

They didnt give them licenses or else itouldn't be call illegal unreported unregulated fishing.

They should make gaining credit easier for people to accrue those vessels. That wouldn't hurt. I think they just sell it their country with higher demand. If they do sell it back they just use neighboring country port then fish goes through land border.

There is the need to urgently commercialize the private security sector. Marine companies should be able to enagage localized security companies for protection while the government policies the defined areas. How can we deploy police men to oil plate forms,if we can create agencies anyway we want then there should be no difficulty creating a marine corps developed to man these while navy serves as backup. it makes no sense deploying military for specialised duties

Where is their proof? How many fishing boats does Nigeria own? And how functional are they? How many fishing boats does the Russians and Chinese bring to fish? Do their fishing boats empty the whole of the territorial areas of fish?

It's hard to find the information that isn't old. The government doesn't seem to publish that data often. From what I know most Nigerian fishers operate with wooden canoes.

The total number of vessels licensed for fishing in Nigeria was 235 in year 2005, 202 in 2006 and 201 in 2007. In 2007 only one was licensed to fish in the EEZ and it is yet to start. There is no information on vessels fishing either in the closed areas (nontrawling zone), fishing with illegal gear or fishing illegal species.

The so called "whites" empty the toxic wastes accumulated in their country into our waters. Our living aquatic resources becomes poisoned with toxic heavy metals which is passed to humans that consumes them. Why won't people develop incurable ailments.

The whites wave foreign currencies to bride the so called people protecting our waters. They then breach our Economic Exclusive Zone without resistance.


We have all the resources including human resources to make things right. We just need good policymakers and policy. Over dependence on oil sha
