Keyword search is an extremely important step in search engine optimization. Of cause, you will want to ensure you do a proper keyword search for every single post you write.

Depending on your domain authority, your reader base, it may take a while to rank high for such keywords but the effort is worth it on the long run.

Using appropriate keywords in your blog and contents remains very important in your search engine optimization journey.

So what is a keyword and what is a keyword research?
A keyword is a word or phrase that you use on your blog or website which search engines can use to rank your blog.

Keyword research, on the other hand, is the process of identifying such keyword which gets a good and relative amount of search volume/month.

Actually, the idea behind keyword search is to find the keywords that can give maximum traffic and comes with less competition.

What are the types of Keywords?

Generally, we can classify a keyword into 5 different groups.

Head-term keywords: These are popular keywords with very high search volume. They are competitive, I mean very competitive to rank for in search results.

Navigational keywords: These are keywords used to identify a particular website or brand. Example Facebook, Google etc.

Informational keywords: These are keywords used to display information on a particular trend. E.g. “how to”, “how can” etc.

Transactional keywords: See this class of keyword as the once with intent to complete a particular action example, “buy homemade goods”, “hire a freelancer”, “buy cheap mobile phone”.

Best practice is to avoid navigational keywords and head term keywords. Reason has been that they are usually very competitive that it won’t benefit you at all.

Did you know that users who do searches with these sorts of keywords just want information? And are most likely not interested in hiring or even buying?

You should focus more on long-tail keywords, transactional keywords and informational keywords as these are the once that truly converts and would serve your purpose.

You should also look at this when you start your keyword search. Find multiple variations of keywords to embed them through out your write ups. This will also help you understand how Google is thinking about a particular keyword and how keywords are related to each other.
