Carling Cup Final: Aston Villa Vs Manchester Utd On Sun, 28th Feb; 4pm Ng Time by Cristalz(f): 11:11pm On Feb 26, 2010
Sunday (28 February 2010) sees the first English domestic trophy to be settled when Wembley stadium hosts the League Cup (also known as the Carling Cup) final between Aston Villa and Manchester United.

Manchester United come into this cup final after getting their Premier League challenge back on target with a fine 3-0 midweek victory over West Ham United. They needed this after surprisingly getting beaten and outplayed by Everton last weekend.
It will be hard to judge how Sir Alex Ferguson will handle the final. Last season, he let some of the younger and fringe players deal with the League Cup up to and including the final, and they came away with the trophy after beating Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley. This season, he set out with the same tactics but changed that to playing his strongest side in the two-legged semi-final against local rivals Manchester City. Whether he goes back to a weaker side on Sunday is anyone’s guess.
Those looking for clues in the team that played West Ham on Tuesday will have noticed that goalkeeper Ben Foster and Darron Gibson both started, two players who are not normally in the first team, and a third – Mame Biram Diouf – came on as substitute. The problem is that this can be read in two different ways. Sir Alex could have been giving them a run-out in compensation for not playing at Wembley or he could have been doing it to give them a little match sharpness ahead of Sunday’s game.
United will be without centre-half Rio Ferdinand, who has suffered a recurrence of a back injury that has troubled him throughout the season. Ferdinand withdrew from United's team for the home clash against West Ham in midweek and will also miss England's friendly with Egypt on Wednesday.
Ferguson will also be without Anderson after the midfielder suffered knee ligament damage in the 3-0 win against the Hammers. The Brazilian midfielder was taken off in the first half and has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
Veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs will miss out on the chance to win his third League Cup winner's medal as he is still recovering from a broken arm and Nani is serving the last game of his three-match suspension. He will miss the Carling Cup final through suspension after being sent-off in Manchester United's 1-1 Premier League draw with Aston Villa. The Portuguese winger was punished for a two-footed lunge on Stiliyan Petrov.

For Aston Villa, this will be the club’s first cup final for ten years and as such manager Martin O’Neill is likely to take it seriously and field a full strength side. Villa could be back at Wembley later in the season after a fine 3-1 win in the FA Cup replay on Wednesday night against Crystal Palace. Villa are now in the quarter finals of the FA Cup away at Championship side Reading, where Villa will be favourites to win and reach the semi-finals, which are also played at Wembley.
There are still some injury concerns over Gabriel Agbonlahor and Stiliyan Petrov, but both have played in recent games and should be able to play. Stephen Warnock is also back in the first XI after injury trouble, but Nigel Reo-Coker looks set to be missing for another month with an ankle injury.

Staffordshire-based referee Phil Dowd will take charge of the Carling Cup Final 2010 at Wembley. His assistants will be Shaun Procter-Green and David Richardson, with Lee Mason acting as fourth official, and Nigel Bannister as reserve assistant.

England do not need that injury prone player at the world cup, when they have Bent, Defoe, Crouch, Zamora, Agbonlahor, Heskey and of course mighty ROONEY in their kitty.
