Today we will continue our series of expositions that will lead us to the coming of our blessed God an Saviour Jesus Christ.

What is the sign of Jonah?
What should nations do when they receive the sign of Jonah?
What follows when the sign of Jonah is not heeded?

Prophet Joel will answer us.

Matthew 16:4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

Jonah 3:4
4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Throughout history, men have been fascinated by phenomena such as Eclipses and other rare astronomical occurrences, seeking to understand their underlying omens and mysteries, esoteric and plain meanings and the portension of these events.

For example, Bible scholars and historians have told us that an eclipse occurred on June 15th 763 BCE, during the likely lifetime of Prophet Jonah.

The path of totality of the Bur-Sagale Eclipse , which is one of the most famous solar eclipses in ancient history, occurred just north of Nineveh on 15th June, 763BC during the reign of King Ashur-Dan III of Assyria, and was recorded for posterity in the Assyrian Eponym Canon - a series of cuneiform tablets discovered in the 19th century.

Prophet Jonah arrived at Nineveh, the capital city of ancient Assyria (a world power at that time), around the time of the Bur Sagale ECLIPSE to proclaim the coming wrath of God upon the city and its people except they repented from their wrong doings.

Because the Assyrians had seen a sign, which they took seriously, they repented, and God spared their city and themselves from His wrath.

Jonah 3:4-5
4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

Jonah 3-10
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

The admonition of Joel
Prophet Joel was sent to warn the Israelite of impending doom from God if they refused to repent from their sins. The Assyrians, a fierce nation, already were lurking at their gates waiting to pounce on the people to ravage their land and destroy them completely, it was a time for the judgment of Israel, the time to pay for her accumulated sins (and the commencement of tribulation).

Joel 2:4-5
4 The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.
5 Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.
6 Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.

Joel 2:10-11
10 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: 11 And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?

It is the very same sign of an ECLIPSE that the LORD used to warn Israel of impending doom and destruction. The day of the LORD was approaching, the harbinger was the darkening of the sun and moon.

Apart from being a literal sign, the expression ''to darken the sun and moon and stars'' portended imminent trouble.

This passage below bears directly on the Mathew 24 passage because it is telling us about the darkening of the sun and the moon and the stars as a preamble to judgment leading to the coming of Christ.

Joel 3:14-16
14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. 15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. 16 The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel.

Matthew 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

Now, when a nation sees the sign of impending judgment, what must she do, what steps must she take to avert doom? It must take the step that Nineveh of Assyria took. It must take the steps as also prescribed by Prophet Joel.

This is what apparently Jesus calls our attention to when he admonishes this generation

Mathew 12:39-42
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

Mathew 16:4

Let the warning continue to resonate with you, if you continue to doubt, that ECLIPSE IS THE ONLY SIGN THAT WILL BE GIVEN TO YOU[/u]

34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

From August 21 2017 to September 20 2017 (Rosh Hashanah 2017) when this generation is expected to end is how many days? less than 40days. As of today, how many days are remaining?

Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

Scoffers may continue to scoff
That ECLIPSE is the only sign that you will EVER be given.

The only sign that will be given to you is the sign of Jonah O ye scoffer!

7Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.

The ECLIPSE is used to collect the spirit of God from the leading ruling nations. Once an ECLIPSE like this one occurs, the Spirit of God is taken away from the ''heavens'' of the world, and they become mortal. This is what happened to Adam and Eve (Israel, Negroes) figuratively described as they ''became naked''. Once the Glory of God leaves a people, they become naked and vulnerable.

Isaiah 14:10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?
11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

This is the meaning of the stars falling from heaven. The stars of heaven have fallen, they no longer have access to the mind of God.

The world is now flying blind. The leaders of our world can no longer divine the mind of God.
