Knowing That We All Need Money, Should Christians Pursue Money? by RemiOluyale(m): 2:42pm On Sep 19, 2017
(Day 1)
The first thing a Christian should find out from God is his purpose and calling. Some are called to dedicate their lives to the work of the ministry as missionaries in foreign fields or to work as shepherds of God’s people in a local assembly. Some Christians are called to work for God as professionals in the market place while others are called into business or even politics! You need to know what is expected of you from God as a believer and be diligent at fulfilling your purpose.
Christians should work to make money. We all need money to give our offerings, buy things, take a good care of ourselves and pay our bills. Paul said he who would not work should not eat. Christians are to use their God-given gifts, talents and professional training to make all the money they can make in the market place. For those who are called into ministry, they should be diligent in their ministry assignments. God will surely meet their needs.
Christians should pursue money within the boundaries of righteousness. Believers should not be desperate to make money at all cost. Yes, there are loads of money outside the boundaries of righteousness. Those are not for disciples of Jesus. The fact that everybody is stealing around you is not acceptable before God as a reason why you should join in the stealing. If Jesus drove those thieves out of the temple, he will surely not allow them to have a place in his father’s house, where there are many mansions. The thief who made it to paradise was the one who made last minute repentance. The other thieve who did not repent did not make it.
Whatever is the motivation for a Christian to pursue money in unrighteousness should be cut off!
“And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off, and throw it away: it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out, and throw it away: it is better for you to enter into life with one eye, than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.” (Mat 18:8,9)
This does not mean you should amputate your hand, leg or gouge out your eyes, what it means is to put away whatever it is that will cause you to sin. Whatever reason, whatever friendship, whatever consideration, put them away! It is a very serious matter.

(Day 2)
The market place is there for Christians and anybody to make all the money they can. For believers, they should only pursue money within the boundaries of righteousness. Haven had a field day in the market place, we should come into the temple of God to worship, pray and give our tithes and offerings cheerfully in thanksgiving to God who gave us the power to make wealth. We should not come into the temple of God with the mindset of coming to make money again! We had the whole week to do that! Don’t pursue money into God’s temple. If you come into the temple, looking for money, you won’t find God. Come into the temple to seek after God and offer your sacrifice of praise to the Almighty. Then all other things shall be added unto you. The market place is the right place for Christians and anybody else to pursue money. The temple is the place of worship and prayer. This is a place where you part with money in sacrificial giving, not a place to double your investment. “And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.” (Matt 21:13).
How I wish it is true that if you give N20,000 offering, you will have hundredfold back. With the help of compounding in a short while every believer should be rolling in millions of dollars! Then going to the market place would have been useless. Of course, that is the lies many people have bought that make them rush to churches where they are promised they can become financially prosperous by giving different kinds and forms of offerings. The reality is that it does not happen that way.
When you come into the temple, worship God in spirit and in truth, offer your prayers and be fed with the undiluted word of God. Thereafter, give your offerings faithfully, cheerfully, sacrificially and obediently to God. Don’t give to God with an investment mentality. God will surely bless you in His own way.
Tomorrow, we will talk about the miracle of financial provision.

(Day 3)
The market place is the right place for Christians to pursue money. The temple of Jehovah is a place of worship, word and prayer. We are to give our tithes and offerings willingly, cheerfully and sacrificially as worship to God. When we worship God faithfully, there shall be miracles. Our God is a wonder working God. The miracle of financial provision that comes from God is not different in principle to any other kind of miracle. Miracles cannot be purchased with money. Miracles do not just happen because we gave some money. God’s miracles are not for sale. Miracles happen when we have an encounter with God, are able to connect with God in our spirit and we receive a word or instruction over a situation. If we act on the inspired word or instruction, God will honour our obedience and miracles will surely happen. So, if a believer receives a word (rhema) from God to give an offering, and he/she obeys, miracles will follow. The miracle can be anything or whatever the believer believes God for at that time. It can be a miracle of financial provision, job provision or anything. A believer can also receive a word or an instruction from God to do any other thing apart from giving an offering. It is not just about money. However, God’s acts cannot be turned into formulas. If somebody else who has no contact or connection in his heart with God just follow this person’s testimony and gave his offerings in expectation for a similar miracle, nothing will happen. It is not a formula. It is not an arithmetic formula like 1+2=3. It is also not an economic theory. It has to do with the breath of God into a man and a corresponding act of obedience for miracles to happen. It is not a magical wand. It originates in God from the depth of the Spirit. It is only those who are sensitive in their spirit and are able to discern the move of the spirit that can catch it. Bottom line, the miracle of financial provision is not a compensation for attending a service and giving your offerings. It is a product of an encounter or a walk with God.

(Day 4)
There are miracles of financial provisions, but it is not like you just give some money as offerings in exchange for miracles of supernatural supplies. It is a walk with God and not a game. Financial prosperity preachers have made us believe that all we need to do is just give our offerings and expect financial breakthroughs to follow. Yes, we need to give our offerings cheerfully and bountifully, but that is not all we have to do to walk in supernatural supplies. Miracles happen when we connect with God and receive an instruction or a word which we can act upon. We do not have to give solely for the purpose of making more money. We can give to God out of our love for Him, as worship and our sacrifice of thankgiving. We should also remember to give to the poor.
Miracles are not formulas. In Cana of Galilee, the mother of Jesus told them that: “whatever he says to you, do it.” (John 2:5) Jesus asked them to fill the waterpots with water. When they did that, he asked them to draw out of the water and take to the governor of the feast. As they were going in obedience, the water turned into wine! That was a miracle of supernatural provision. Of course, this is not how to brew wine. The water turned into wine because they received a word from Jesus and acted on the word they received. It will be foolhardy for someone to now start to preach it that if you are short of wine at your party, just ask the servers to fetch water and fill some containers. Thereafter, take some to the Master of Ceremony, on the way, it will become wine. We will quickly label such a preacher as a liar. But when they tell us to just bring our money for the purpose of multiplying it for us, we eat it line, hook and sinker. Who does not want more money? God will back His word and not anyone’s greed.
Unbelievers, Christians who are living in sin and converts who are yet to know their left from their right spiritually rush to a church because they heard that they are praying and laying hands on worshippers for financial breakthrough there. Upon getting there, they are asked to keep giving their offerings for their breakthroughs. They keep giving and giving and getting nothing until they get tired and also get offended. Someone who could hardly feed himself and his family was going about trying to borrow N50,000 (about $140) to give as offering in his church for financial breakthroughs. He was not trying to borrow money to start a business in the market place, but to give as breakthrough offering! What kind of nonsense is that? We know it is a scam because N50,000 cannot buy any financial miracle. The ‘price’ is higher than that! Some are sold handkerchiefs, anointing oil, holy water from Israel or whatever trick can be thought about for financial miracles. These things are simply ridiculous.

(Day 5)
A country where people run to religious houses for financial prosperity instead of building factories and starting businesses will remain in abject poverty until the people can have a change of attitude. The same thing goes for an individual life. In the house of God, we receive salvation, healing and transformation of our lives through the teaching of God’s word so that we can live a life that is pleasing to God and shine as light wherever we go. That is the purpose of the temple. It is a place of worship, prayer and teaching of God’s word. When it comes to earning a living and making money, the right place to go is the market place. That is the purpose of the market place. The market place is open to Christians and non believers alike.
It is not wrong or ungodly for Christians to desire financial prosperity. We need money to run our churches and preach the gospel. Therefore, if any Christian desires to have money, the market place is there. Do not come to the temple of God with the object of money making in your heart. Come to meet God. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. All these things shall be added to you because God will surely bless the work of your hand when you serve Him faithfully. (Matt 6:33) In the temple, give your tithes and offerings faithfully, cheerfully and bountifully. Give sacrificially as worship and thanksgiving to God. Do not give with the mind of doubling your money. God is not a money doubler. Of course, God will bless you for your giving, but in His own way.
If you want more money, develop yourself in your chosen career, profession or business. If your present business is not yielding enough, you can diversify. Attend trade fairs, business seminars, conferences and expos. Do all you can do righteously to pursue money in the market place and trust God to bless the work of your hand. God bless you.

(Day 6)
This is the concluding part of this series. My final note under this topic is to Church leaders. I want to talk to us on how to raise money for our ministries. Ministry needs a lot of money to do so many things that are required for the day to day running of our Churches. Men of God also need money for their up keep, family expenses and other responsibilities. He that serves by the altar must eat by the altar. (1 Cor. 9:13)
In the attempt to raise money, men of God should not use tricks or gimmicks to rouse their congregation to give money. Why would a man set himself in conflict against God because he wants to raise money for the work of God? God needs no man’s help. God is able to help Himself. If the project is initiated by God, heaven will finance it. God will stir up the heart of His people to give to His projects. Be honest and truthful when raising money for God’s work. Tell the people what the money is needed for and encourage them to give sacrificially.
Don’t make promises you do not have the capacity or God’s backing to keep. Stop asking your congregation to give certain sums of money in order to become millionaires. Those are lies from the pit of hell. If money is needed for anything, let the people know. Don’t sell handkerchiefs, anointing oil, special water or anything whatsoever to raise money. If after buying your 'anointed' handkerchiefs they do not automatically become millionaires as you promised them, they will label you as a liar and eventually leave your Church for you! These things have a way of backfiring.
Oh man of God, live a simple life. Do not run after material things the way the people of the world do. Do not compete with anybody, thereby putting yourself under pressure to raise too much money than the capacity of your congregation. Some men of God travel overseas to claim they have orphanages and helping the poor when they only want to fill their bellies. Liars have no place in the kingdom of God.
Maintain your integrity in all things including your attitude to money. A word is enough for the wise. God bless you.
