Dorman Long Engineering Limited Graduates Stream 2 – Human Capacity Development by designguru: 2:16pm On Sep 26, 2017
Beneficiaries of Stream 2 of the NCDMB Human Capacity Development Initiative Training (HCDIT) facilitated by Dorman Long Engineering Limited graduated recently. This batch of trainees were trained in Welding Techniques and Health, Safety and Environment Management. At an impressive graduation ceremony held at the Dorman Long facility at Agege; an event which commanded the presence of industry stakeholders, the 83 graduands were presented with certificates and charged to capitalize on the knowledge gained to in order better maximize opportunities in the job market.

In his opening remarks, Adike Kopiam, Monitoring Supervisor, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), explained that the NCDMB has a mandate to develop local capacity and position Nigerians to participate more effectively in the oil and gas industry. He further stated that with the support of responsible corporate organizations like Dorman Long Engineering Limited, their success rate continues to increase. Presently, there are about 20 training programs being conducted across Nigeria as part of these efforts. He expressed the gratitude of the NCDMB for the support of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) in sponsoring the present training. He commended Dorman Long Engineering Limited specially for facilitating the training and dedicating three months to build the Nigerian youths.

Prince Nwosa, General Manager Operations, Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), explained that HHI’s commitment to the training programs is hinged on the significant value added to the trainees by the program. He reminded the beneficiaries that the course content was designed to increase their competitiveness as skilled manpower. He advised the graduating trainees to continue improving and expanding their knowledge and skill sets as it would enhance their appeal to prospective employers.

In closing, Dr. Timi Austen-Peters, Chairman of Dorman Long Engineering Limited, expressed delight at the success of the program and his appreciation for the commitment of other responsible businesses, like the NCDMB, Hyundai and Chevron Nigeria Limited without which the program would not have been possible. Buttressing the importance of the HSEM training for the trainees, Dr. Austen – Peters shared the news that Dorman Long recently received a Safety Excellence Award (2016) from Chevron Nigeria Limited. He highlighted the importance of safety in all operations and commended the training team for completing three months of training without any incident.

He disclosed that Dorman Long would retain seven welders from the number graduating, and that others would be included in the Company’s database so that if at any time in the future there arise opportunities in the organization, they could be invited.
