In the strangest of circumstances, Lyon defender, Marcelo, got what can only be described as a strong contender for the strangest red card ever in a match against Angers for flicking a yellow card . The defender, Marcelo, who was yellow carded for the initial offence turned his back to accept his yellow card in a bit of anger. Coincidence and bad luck however contrived to end the defender's game early because just as he was about to raise his hand up in protest of the yellow card, he flicked the card out of the referee's hand, albeit inadvertently, the referee saw it as dissent and gave Marcelo a straight red card for his efforts.
