This is the only country where heroic athletes / footballers are used and dump. That's why sometimes I don't blame those who refuse the national call-up.

The best motivation that can be given is the guarantee of their life after their service will be over.

All well meaning Nigerians should stand up on their feet and help this poor man

Are you for real? How much were Olympians paid back then? Abi you no sabi say na Buhari dey power that time? I watched that Olympics and saw how he injured his knee in that clean and jerk attempt. Apart from Lawrence Iquabon and Oliver Orok, he was our medal prospect in weightlifting.

Sad to see him in this condition.

one thing people don't understand about life is this; life don't care about you if you have nothing to offer. People stop caring about your existence the very day you stop having something valuable to offer to the world.

All these music stars and so called celebrities u are seeing flashing wealth up and down, the very day they stop singing or acting or doing what made them celebrity, that's the day the world will forget about their existence.

If you are a man, u don't have money or some other sought after service to offer to mankind, then nobody will care about your existence....and if u are a lady, u are not physically cute, u don't have money or other value to offer to the world, then nobody will care about your existence...and as painful as it may seem, that's how the world is everywhere in this planet earth, sadly

The only difference between Nigeria and western countries is that they have social welfare support for less privilege citizens but will u be happy living your whole life under government meagre social welfare support

The good thing is that he is keeping fit. Cheaper than going to the gym

This is a lesson to all those making money now. Invest in a business, shares, land, bonds whatever cos the honeymoon ain't forever. People making noise about the government abandoning people should also acknowledge that in their hey days they (stars) ought to have saved up while the party was on.

Well, at least he is hardworking, and not some lazy guy smoking and drinking his life away. I hope he gets help. And I hope they have a business in mind they want to help him set up...or a permanent job they want to get for him. I see him every day at ajah he is a very strong man most times I wonder who pays him he is a good man..

How did he get broke? Although that doesnt say it all...but we shd learn not always to blame govt or everyone else but ourselves for our personal failures

Ok we should help him, I agree. But what did he do with the money and goodwill he got as an athlete? Sometimes people mess their lives up and expect the rest of us to share the blame.

Life is in phases,

There was a phase of his life when he was a potential Olympic medalist but the tragedy of life or maybe his village people aborted such hopes.

Now, he is in a phase of his life where he needs to fill potholes for survival.

There is nothing wrong in that!

If it was one random guy on the streets filling potholes for a merciful token from road users will anybody care


So because his name is Bassey and once represented Nigeria in the Olympics, time should stand still while we mourn his woes right?

The truth is most of our athletes and celebrities lead a fake life... Let them come down to whom they really are and make away with youthful exuberance and unnecessary spendings. Rainy day must surely come... But how prepared?
