In the 60's it was very difficult for a westerner to get a job in any organization headed by a Igboman, so the Yoruba people decided they were going to take their own destiny into their own hands.

It was not presidential system. It was parliamentary. Azikiwe came to the parliament as a representative of the Lagos constituency that voted for him. There was no law that said he must be premier. He lacks popularity and acceptance outside of his constituency.
