Chinese OEM Huawei just took the wraps off their latest flagship device, The Mate 10 Pro. This device features some really impressive features, from the screen to the AI engine and the Dual Leica cameras that grace the rear of this beautiful device.

DISPLAY

Talk of premium. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro has an impressive 6” AMOLED screen with the new rave 18:9 aspect ratio. The resolution has seen somewhat of a slight downgrade to achieve the wide aspect ratio. Unlike the Mate 9’s QHD (1440 x 2560px) and 534ppi, the Mate 10 Pro features a FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2160px and a 402ppi.
The sides of the phone are near “bezeless” or as the OEM terms it, “barely-there-bezel” (weird, right?). There is also support for HDR10 which covers 112% of the NTSC colour space for a rather pleasant and amazing viewing experience.

CAMERA

The cameras gracing the rear of the device feature Leica lenses. The setup consists of the regular 20MP sensor for stills and video and a 12MP monochrome sensor. The main sensor features a large f/1.6 lens and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The AI-accelerator of the Kirin 970 chipset termed the “NPU” assists the cameras real-time scene detection, enhances digital zoom and motion detection.

SoC, DESIGN & FEATURES

The Hisilicon Kirin 970 chipset, which is an in-house SoC developed by Huawei, makes its debut on the Mate 10 Pro. Featuring an Octa-core processor, the Mali G71 MP12 GPU also makes its first appearance here. The G71 MP12 promises a 40% improvement in performance over the older G71 designs.
The Mate 10 Pro runs Huawei’s EMUI 8.0 based on Android Oreo. The Smart Screen feature allows users run two apps simultaneously or mirror the screen to a larger screen using a DisplayPort-compatible monitor via the USB-C port.

STORAGE

Storage options start at 64GB for the regular edition, while the Porsche Edition comes with 256GB of storage. Both of them are equipped with 6GB of RAM. A 4,000mAh battery is responsible for keeping the lights on and Huawei’s “SuperCharge” promises a day’s worth of juice in just 20 minutes. IP67 dust and water resistance (up to 1 metre for 30 minutes) is present but the 3.5mm audio jack decided to take a rain check.
