Three talking points from
Barcelona 2-0 Malaga
Another win, another clean
sheet and another less than
impressive showing from the
Barcelona attack against
Malaga.
But on the plus side the club
remain unbeaten, are top of
the table and for that reason
alone, we should not really
complain.
Here’s a few thoughts from
Saturday’s win…
Barcelona get lucky again
Let’s be honest, Barcelona
have had more than their fair
share of luck this season, as a
quick glance at the club’s top
scorers will tell you.
Just behind Lionel Messi is
own goal with five, and it’s
still only October.
Now, back to Saturday’s game
and, as we all know, Gerard
Deulofeu’s opener really
should not have stood.
The ball had clearly gone out
of play before Lucas Digne
had crossed it, and the Malaga
defence had all stopped
playing to appeal.
Now while they should have
played to the whistle, and the
officials should have ruled it
out, there’s no denying that it
was yet another slice of luck
for Barca.
There’s a cliché that “you
make your own luck” in
football and while there’s an
element of truth to that, it
does also make you wonder
when Barca’s luck will run out.
Luis Suarez’s form is getting
really worrying
There was a moment in the
second half when Luis Suarez
looked set to score his fourth
La Liga goal of the season.
A great run from Sergi
Roberto was followed by a
superb pass and all Suarez
had to do was slot it home,
but somehow he managed to
miss from close range.
It was little surprise when he
was replaced shortly
afterwards and from the look
on his face, he really was not
happy about Ernesto
Valverde’s decision.
We know that Suarez has a
cyst on his knee, and Uruguay
have confirmed he will not be
called up for friendlies in
November, to help him
recover from the problem.
Which kind of makes you
wonder if he should be
playing for Barcelona right
now?
Sergi Roberto has to play in
midfield
Sergi Roberto has been seeing
plenty of action in recent
weeks but again on Saturday
he started at right-back with
Nelson Semedo on the bench.
However, Valverde switched
things up in the second half,
sending Semedo on and
moving Roberto into midfield
- and what a change it made.
Roberto was really impressive
further up the pitch, Malaga
hardly saw the ball from that
point onwards and Barca
would have scored a third if
Suarez hadn’t missed a sitter.
Semedo has already proved he
has what it takes to be Barca’s
right-back, while Roberto has
been creating chances and
looking the part in midfield,
and that’s where they need to
stay.
