The funniest and most expensive joke I have heard from Nigerians doing menial jobs in the US. and earning between $1,500- $2,000, is claiming that they are richer than bank managers in Nigeria. I guess they make their money in America while spending it in Nigeria. This stupid joke need to stop. A Nigerian doing menial job in the US. at best can be compare to someone receiving 80,000 Monthly in Nigeria in purchasing power. A Nigerian doing odd jobs for 10 yrs will still be paying rent while a 10 yrs bank manager would have long built two to three houses with a lucrative investment. Nigerians in America need to stop converting currencies because it is clearly stated that if you earn $12,000 annually in America you are living in poverty

Even a senior RN with an annual salary of $75,000 in America can't be compared to a Bank Manager in Nigeria. Enough with their ridiculous joke!

Looool!! I'm beginning to think so.

The moniker joined this month and all its threads and post have been anti-American.(Either the moniker has been denied US visa multiple times or something else is going on...lol!)

Either way, Americans no send am. Fact remain is no matter the hate or love for the blessed country, It will always stand out in history to be one of the great and powerful countries to ever exist.

Sorry dear, American visa is nothing. Maybe 20 yrs ago but not in 2017. When someone points this truth counter the topic and not the individual. Can you compare someone doing menial job or even a Registered Nurse in America to a bank manager in Nigeria. Come on let's be frank and honest.

Correct one my guy. Aside from paying bills till your grave, it's very difficult to progress in that godforsaken country.

Same thing I have been telling people everytime but they don't agree. You can only do the conversion when the money gets home.

In Lyon currently, even earning €30k annual salary means you will live a basic life. Same as someone with a 80k salary in Nigeria. Earning under €20k means you are living under the poverty line. Not even with a tax rate of 30%.

Don't think about owning a car or raising a family with a €20k salary in Lyon. I'm sure it's either you are homeless or sharing a room with such a salary in Paris.

And yet, I see these same people flashing all over Facebook but people back home don't know.

Even someone earning 2500 usd before tax in America has a room mate while someone earning 80k in nigeria can afford to rent a two bedroom flat if he chooses to move out of his father's house.

OP , I totally understand that there's no place like home. But the way you make your point doesn't worth it, yes most of these guys in America do menial jobs yet they have built duplexes and has many Landed properties in Nigeria, this is called investment wise. Oh, you think they spend all their money in the states? Again I never saw where you mentioned social amenities like constant power supply, good road, health facilities, water etc. At least they pay tax and enjoy what the money is being used for. Please don't be biased in your judgement. Thanks

sorry dude. It will take a Nigerian doing menial job in the US. twenty years to be able to complete a duplex. Unless they are involved in shady deals it is impossible. Even middle class Americans who make $57,000 annually cant save a thousand dollars monthly. When you get to America the hidden truth will ne revealed to you

You are 100% right. Most of them only deceive their relatives here during festive periods when they come around. This is after they have worked and saved all year round doing menial jobs. Only a few are truly successful but their number can't be compared to the majority who are living from hand to mouth with no reasonable savings

Yeah one reason is because of the latest everything....latest phone (a big rip off imagine buying a Samsung for $500 + then monthly bill $50) 12 months later (black friday) they are already flashing another new one grin. Big screen tv...something is always new grin
Car....after 5years of paying off, you want another cheesy
Home mortgage is okay.
CC is lifetime
Student loans another lifetime.
A huge tale but make the best of wherever you are.

The system keeps everyone in an endless pursuit of elusive dream. In America you really dont own anything. Even after paying off your mortgage and you stop paying property tax, you house can still be taken away from you.

I know you are trying to make some good points about living in America which I agree but calm down with the exaggeration. It is rare to find an 80k salary earner in Nigeria afford to rent a comfortable two bedroom flat. I am talking of the Nigeria where real major business and social activities take place (in the context you are giving) like Abuja, Lagos, Port-harcourt e.t.c not Osun, Yola, Maiduguri e.t.c

It is the plain truth. It is impossible to save 10kusd annually in the united states, even those with a paying job of $75,000 cant save that much. Do you know what it means to have $100,0000 in cash in america? 85% of americans dont have it and i am even talking about first class citizens

So it's a good ideal if you use 3months salary for just the rent...what about transport, feeding and the rest...

back from ghost modegrin

Bro one thing you don't understand about America is that they don't have African man mentality where you save millions in the bank (bank doing business with your money and making cool cash). Americans enjoy life as if rapture will happen tomorrow, they already have everything running smoothly for them. So why saving? Forget about the issue of money in the bank for Americans cos they don't give a f** about that.

It is the norm globally. In the western world you spend over 30% of your salary on accommodation. The highest bill in every part of the world is accommodation. Thats why most nigerians in America look for a room mate to share the burden. Even at that they can still expect to spend over $5000 annually on rent
