kikuyu1:If true. We might also see the KDF getting new infantry fighting vehicles. Also the contract might include bridge layers, recovery vehicles etc. This leaves the question on whether the KDF is planning to shift towards a NATO logistics system type of trail. |

kikuyu1: Gentleman, problem I see is that only your talks about Kenya buying Merkava tanks. Testing/Demo on your grounds does not mean you will buy it, South Africa tested Leopard tanks on their soil some time ago, but no money to buy it. Wonder how Kenya wants $6 million per unit tanks to fight who? Islamic terrorists taking civilians hostage in Nairobi shopping mall? Just does not make sense. Rather, Kenya needs COIN weapons and electronic equipment for current security problems. Indian Saryu OPV for Kenya, I am yet to find a source for that too except the same . Could be right, but better if another source says it too. No hard feelings, the stories just seem to have weak source. Kenyan KDF is still a better combat force than South African SANDF, you fight, they sleep |

Update : Nigeria's new purchase of 40 combat/transport helicopters will be... America : 30 helicopters Russia : 10 helicopters These helicopters will be arriving Nigerian Air Force base in the next 7 days ! Nigeria dwarfs South Africa's 11 units Rooivalk combat helicopter force. Who has the strongest military in Africa? You still dey ask? South Africans in a state of shock "It was learnt that the government had imported 40 helicopter gunships from the US and Russia. They are expected to arrive the country first week of August. Secondly, it is not economical except you have have and maintain record oil and gas prices. If they remain at record level then Nigeria can tap her huge heavy fuel reserves. Shell looks to sell US shale portfolio after $2bn writedown By Guy Chazan Royal Dutch Shell is to sell its position in the Eagle Ford shale in Texas, two months after announcing a big writedown on the value of its US shale assets. Shell took impairments of $2.1bn in the second quarter, mostly related to its tight oil assets in North America, and said it had launched a strategic review of its shale portfolio there. Shell said that as part of the review, it had decided that its properties in the Eagle Ford, where it owns 106,000 acres and operates 192 wells, “do not meet our global targets for materiality and scale” but that they “offer a valuable growth opportunity for another operator”. A sale would end the company’s more than 50-year history in South Texas. Like other majors such as ExxonMobil, Shell was relatively late to the US shale boom, which was driven by smaller, independent oil companies. Their use of techniques such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing or fracking – which involves injecting large volumes of water, sand and chemicals into shale formations to create fractures and release the oil and gas trapped inside – unlocked huge reserves that were long considered uncommercial. By the time Shell and the other oil majors began to build up big positions in areas like the Barnett Shale in Texas and the Eagle Ford, the big surge in shale gas output had caused a sharp drop in gas prices, hurting the majors’ earnings. Rex Tillerson, chief executive of Exxon, which became a big player in shale gas after its $41bn acquisition of XTO Energy in 2010, admitted last year that the company was suffering as a result of weak gas prices. Shell said it was dealing with the gas glut problem by switching its focus from gas to liquid-rich shales. But despite that, its North American exploration and production business remains in trouble: it suffered a loss in the second quarter and is expected to remain in the red for the rest of this year at least. Shell has also announced plans to sell 600,000 acres in the Mississippi Lime formation in Kansas, and to exit a shale oil research project in Colorado. http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/0/c2298e46-29ae-11e3-9bc6-00144feab7de.html#axzz38wgwwdJ2 |

AugustineAgain:His not a soldier. And he was never part of the army. He was a member of koevoet engaged in fire fights more than 200 times. If you had read more books about COIN ops in Africa it is almost impossible not to came across his name. Experienced in what? Failing to retake the town of Damboa? The mission in the North is failing. Your president and his military advisors underestimated BH,last year he said after 4 months of state of emergency BH will be destroyed. We know he had to fire his chiefs of staff,200 girls kidnapped, more than 1000 civilian kills, hundreds of your soldiers killed after 4 months of emergency rule. |

Henry120: On the T-72 and merkava, an upgraded T-72 is just as good as the merkava the Israelis deploy. It is when you add the force structure (artillery, airforce, navy), that the merkava is on a different level. HA! Are you insane? The T-72 is one of the worst tanks in the world - look at any war it has ever fought in for proof. Stop calling S.A weapons, you got nothing of note outside MRAPs. 1. Rooivalk - Nigeria has no comparison 2. Badger IFV -Nigeria has no comparison 3. G6 -Nigeria has no comparison 4. G5 - Nigeria has no comparison 5. Oilifant Mk2 - Nigeria has no comparison 6. NTW-20 - Nigeria has no comparison 7. Rooikat - Nigeria has no comparison 8. Umkhonto missile - Nigeria has no comparison 9. Ingwe Missile - Nigeria has no comparison 10. Mokopa Missile - Nigeria has no comparison. 11. Y3 AGL - Nigeria has no comparison 12. Milkor MGL - Nigeria has no comparison And that is just offensive weapons. agaugust: Vickers Eagle MBT of both Nigeria and Kenyan armies are digitalized tanks No they are not. Do you even know what digitized means? these are the only two countries that use Vickers Eagle of that version in this world, both countries got 1990s deliveries and had major digital upgrades confirmed with images and narrations from Beegeagle and Military Today website...it has video of the Vickers upgrades used by Nigeria and Kenya. That is just a flat out lie Both countries do NOT need new MBT now, they need COIN weapons and equipment of the best capability available at reasonable prices in the market. Tanks play a role in COIN. Mobile bunkers to defend strategic positions. The MBT is the quint-essential force multiplier for the infantry. Maybe you could get Boko Haram to stop slaughtering your civilians if you deployed some MBT's and attached infantry to defend towns? Merkava main battle tanks won't stop Islamic terrorists b.ombing Kenyan shopping malls. There is a better way to spend $6 million x 40 tanks = $240 million. Unlike cowardly Nigeria, Kenya has persued its enemies into Somalia where it fights a LICW war against them... and guess what... you need tanks in LICW Kenya needs to buy Nigeria's type of new sophisticated COIN equipment. Nigeria has no "new sophisticated COIN equipment" - pic related Nigerian air force now has fresh delivery of the most sophisticated surveillance aircraft in all Africa , even Egypt is now envying us. No you didnt and no they are not. 1 Like

kikuyu1: One simple reason. It is the only modern MBT from the "west" to have suffered a vehicle penetration and a crew fatalitys*. And to be honest I think most modern MBT's are over-rated: Leclerc, Type 10, Altay, Arjun (probably the worst tank to go into production in the last 20 years), T-90 (it has some good upgrade packages though) and even the T-80 (best tank the Russians ever made - but still sh1t) Its only really the Chally 2 (with Street-fighter upgrade) or Abrams (after the introduction of the DU armor) and the Leo 2 (because of other considerations like cost and willingness to export top-tier models) that are worth a damn. I also think that the K2 Black Panther will be a world leader if they put what they say they are going to put into it. *Excluding the Iraqi M1A1Ms that have been wrecked by ISIS - but thats what you get when you take off the DU layer. |

MikeZA: His not a soldier. And he was never part of the army. You said the old men will save you...so they become your soldiers, these grand-papas that cannot even save themselves in battle Damboa is a village where the people willingly invite Boko Haram to come and hide there, Nigerian army clears it, the people go invite Boko Haram back again. Nigerian army put garrison there, the villagers murder the same Nigerian soldiers there to protect the village. The peole of Damboa are just like Gaza palestinian civilains hiding Hamaz inside their villages, well Nigeria is avoiding k.illing civilains like Isreali army...world's best army (not most powerful but best in war history with unbeatable skills) have used full Israeli military might to k.ill over 1,000 civilains in Gaza in 3 weeks ! The USA/EU/UN is not complaining about that, but if it was Nigeria that used artillery to wipe out Boko Haram in Damboa, BBC, Saraha Reporters, Al Jazeera, CNN, and Nairaland South African mugus will open their stinking mouth without first using toothpaste and tooth brush to condemn Nigerian army and say our army is incompetent or genocidal....fools Anyway, from the on going war in Gaza, it is becoming clear that Nigerian army is equal to or better than the great Israeli army in COIN war, we are not using artillery on Damboa village, we are sending in 600 infantry commandoes to do one-on-one fight with Boko Haram and save the civilian lives there, despite the fact that the civilians happily invited Boko Haram to hide in their Damboa 'Gaza' village. Now more fresh battle experience for a full battalion of young and newly trained Nigerian commandoes...the kind of experience 2014 that 95% of photo-mania South African army and special forces of today 2014 do NOT have but only wish and dream they have "It was gathered that the military and the soldiers deployed in that part of Borno State had become very skeptical about the sincerity of the people following the ambushing and killing of an army officer, who was commanding the troop. The source said, “The Army is sceptical about the sincerity of the Damboa people. The situation is such that it has become difficult to separate the people of the area from Boko Haram elements in the area. The place is completely infested. “And that was responsible for the ambushing and killing of the officer, who was in charge of the troops in the area. The leadership of the Nigerian military has concluded arrangement to deploy 600 specially trained commandos in the troubled area of Damboa, Borno State" http://www.punchng.com/news/fg-to-deploy-600-commandos-in-damboa/ .

AugustineAgain: Show us a picture of a Chinhook in Nigerian colors. No independent (non-nigerian) source has confirmed these claims. They are but flights of fancy Plus, Boko Haram has helicopters too There is very uncomfortable news out of Borno once again further demonstrating the degree of distrust between locals and the Nigerian military drafted to the plagued region. The Nigerian military Mi-35 helicopter that reportedly crashed in Bama earlier this month apparently suffered gunfire, but not from terrorists, according to the latest reports we are receiving from trusted locals. National defense spokesperson Chris Olukolade reported that the crash was ‘not due to enemy action.’ Information gathered by ENDS in Borno has it that locals are confident that this chopper was one of two military helicopters used by Boko Haram terrorists. It has been repeatedly reported that certain helicopters have been seen giving cover to Boko Haram during their attacks on the Nigerian military and civilian-JTF, CJTF. http://www.osundefender.org/?p=179584 Lol - your civilians dont even know what to think anymore |
