USB Debugging is very essential for performing several Android tasks. If you need to root your Android phone, install a custom ROM, create a backup or perform a number of other tasks, you may need to enable USB Debugging mode on your Android device.

Broadly speaking, USB Debugging is an essential feature that allows you to perform some computerized tasks (such as data transfer from a PC to your Android phone). With the activation of USB Debugging mode, it becomes an easy task to connect your Android phone with a PC and perform important tasks such as data recovery, file transfer and so on.

In case you’re not so familiar with Android phones but interested in buying one such as LG, HTC, Lenovo, Motorola, Sony Xperia or Samsung, be informed that the USB Debugging mode is not activated already. To activate USB debugging –especially for Android 4.2 and higher versions such as Lollipop 5.0 –this article will guide you on the easy steps you can follow.

Also, it is worthy to note that it is highly risky to enable USB Debugging when not in use. If the USB Debugging mode is on at all times, your phone could be vulnerable to security risks such as malware attacks. If you frivolously enable USB Debugging mode especially when your Android phone is connected with the USB port of somebody you don’t trust, this could be an opportunity for such a person to explore the files on your phone or even harm your phone.

However, it’s still something that many users enable without giving it a second thought–and without knowing what it does. This guide explains what USB Debugging Mode is on Android and how to enable it.
