Chelsea vs Atletico Madrid predictions for Tuesday’s Champions League clash at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea look to seal the top spot in their Champions League group with a win over the underperforming Atletico Madrid



Chelsea are on the verge of sealing the top spot in a very tough Champions League group, something which will give them great confidence going forward into the knockout stages next year. They come into the final game two points clear of Roma in 2nd, and have an unbridgeable four point lead over their struggling opponents. However, with Roma holding a better head to head record over Chelsea, the hosts know that a failure to win would leave them wide open to drop down into 2nd.
Atletico Madrid were largely considered as the favourites for this group given their dominance of the Champions League over the past few years, but that hasn’t turned out to be the case. They are now relying on Roma slipping up against Qarabag to stand any chance of qualification from this group, but they still need a win at Stamford Bridge.
The weekend saw Chelsea beat Newcastle 3-1 despite falling behind early on, and once again it was Eden Hazard who led the team to victory with a well deserved brace. The Belgian winger now has eight goals in all competitions after a slow start to the campaign, and he has netted five in Chelsea’s last five. Chelsea can look back on their 2-1 win in Madrid earlier this season and take a lot of confidence from it, but more recently they have slipped up. They were well beaten in Italy against Roma, and that came after they failed to beat the 2nd placed side at Stamford Bridge.
Atletico Madrid finally seem to be hitting their stride too. They also came from behind at the weekend with a 2-1 win over Real Sociedad, and have won five of their last six in all competitions. This includes their  2-0 win over Roma that kept them in the running for qualification from this group, and the fact they have not been beaten since their loss to Chelsea illustrates their improvement.
Atletico Madrid will fancy their chances of at least getting on the scoresheet on Tuesday, especially since they really have to go for the win. They have scored in nine of their last ten competitive games, and Chelsea have struggled at the back in the Champions League this season. The hosts have only managed a clean sheet against Qarabag and have conceded seven goals in their five group games in total. However, they have scored 15 at the other end and haven’t failed to find the net at home in their last six games. This makes a Both Teams to Score bet look highly valuable, so we’re backing that. In the end we’re expecting Atletico Madrid to fail to find the winner, and a 2-2 correct score predictions looks the best option.
