BREAKING: Senate Ask MOUAU VC, Otunta To Recall Sacked Workers by arabbunkum: 7:09am On Dec 07
The Senate committee on Ethics privileges and public petitions headed by Senator Sam Anyanwu yesterday ordered the Vice Chancellor Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture Umudike, Prof Francis Ogbonnaya Otunta to recall all the suspended Staff of the University and pay them back all the salaries due to them.
The order came after the Committee looked at the evidences of employment of the sacked workers before them.
But while reacting to a text message sent to her mobile phone number, the University Public Relations Officers, PRO, Mrs. Adanma Odefa said the University management and not the Senate will decide the fate of sacked workers.
She said, “The University is run by Management and Governing Council. Not by Senate”.
Prof Otunta had, in July this year, sacked about 460 staff of the university with temporary appointment letters. About one month later, in August this year, he also secretly sacked about 380 staff of the university with permanent appointment letters without any reason. His attempt to demote about 25 professors is being delayed by litigation as the affected professors have sued the school management.
