Our smartphone is the object we arguably spend the most of our time with. It knows more about us than any of our friends or relatives. It is the source of endless information and entertainment that we gobble each day. And with the recent innovation like the Google Assistant, the smartphone has easily become our AI friend that we talk to and give voice instructions.

Smartphones are becoming more and more powerful as new features are being added. They now perform almost every function as the personal computer. With the increase in the features of smartphones comes one limiting problem- its battery life. The battery life of a mobile device is quite short and it seems nothing can be done about this.

Since the battery of phones have limited duration, we have to look at the software as the only option for optimizing battery life. By tweaking the software parts of smartphones, you can increase the battery life of your smartphone to a considerable length of time. We will provide you with a few tips that will help you increase your phone’s battery life through various settings on your phone.

1. Make use of a black wallpaper

This may seem a little off the angle but on a deeper level, it actually works. Your smartphone screen uses pixels for display. When you use a light or other colored wallpaper, each pixel on your screen will have to light up to display the wallpaper. This uses more of your battery juice. But a black wallpaper is different. Since it is all black, your screen pixels won’t be lit, so no juice will be used. You can download black wallpapers from the Internet.

2. Reduce amount of widget on your home screen

Yeah, we all love widgets. They give easy access to important functions in an app. Also ,they give easy access to these apps. But, one fact is undeniable — they use more battery juice. Widgets are always synchronized with the corresponding apps to keep content fresh which prevents the battery from sleeping in the background. Keep the widgets on your home screen to those that are actually needed

3. Always clear your recent apps

Exiting most apps won’t automatically terminate them. They will continue running in the background. This uses lots of your battery fluid. To avoid this, always clear your recent apps. Also, using the lite versions of apps like Facebook helps to improve your battery’s health.

4. Switch off wireless connections when not in use

Always switch off your Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS when not in use. Also, your location when it is not necessary. All these consume your battery life. You probably don’t need to keep your mobile network on at all times. So, switch it off when not needed.

5. Display optimization

Smartphone display is a major battery drainer. Try optimizing your screen display to reduce battery consumption. Reduce your Brightness to the lowest when the light is dim. This will help to improve your battery life as well as make your screen healthy to your eyes. Also, optimize your sleep time to less than one minute.

While most will recommend 3rd party task killer as a means of improving your battery life, we actually don’t think battery savers are of much help. They keep running in the background, using up juice they promise to preserve. It’s advisable that you stay away from such.

The black wallpaper thing works only if you're using an Amoled screen phone
