Vomiting during pregnancy is usually part of a healthy pregnancy. Every woman experiences this as a symptom of morning sickness during pregnancy. Vomiting during pregnancy is one of the standard discomforts that lead women turning the American Pregnancy Association for help.

Nausea and vomiting are usually part of a healthy pregnancy. Severe nausea and vomiting of pregnancy affect less than 1% of women, but it can be debilitating, sometimes requiring hospitalization and rehydration.

Hormones slow down digestion, which could trigger stomach and intestines, thus leading to nausea and vomiting. Indigestion, acid reflux, heartburn, and, which are all considered possible symptoms of pregnancy and potential triggers of vomiting during pregnancy. The following hormones that have to do with this process include;

Pregnancy hormones- human chorionic gonadotropin(hCG).

Progesterone

Estrogen

Abnormality levels of thyroid hormones have also been reported in a woman with severe vomiting, although a cause and effect relationship remains unknown.

DANGERS ASSOCIATED WITH VOMITING DURING PREGNANCY

It is essential, however, for women to distinguish between typical pregnancy symptoms and potentially dangerous conditions accompanied by vomiting, such as hyperemesis gravidarum.

What is hyperemesis gravidarum?

Hyperemesis gravidarum is a condition where women experience more severe symptoms of pregnancy, such as profuse nausea and vomiting. These symptoms can have severe consequences, such as weight loss, rapid heart rate, and low blood pressure. Severe vomiting can prevent your baby from getting the nutrients he needs to grow and develop at optimal health.

POSSIBLE HOME REMEDIES AND TREATMENT FOR VOMITING DURING PREGNANCY

Here are some home remedies for Women experiencing morning sickness. They can lessen the effects by making small changes to their daily routines.

1. Ginger

Ginger works well on the digestive system by reducing the acidity in the stomach. It is one of the best herbal medicine for morning sickness. The smell or the flavour of ginger helps you get over nausea or vomiting.

2. Peppermint

To reduce vomiting during pregnancy make sure to chew some peppermint leaves because it will aid in alleviating the vomiting symptoms, It has methanol, which produces an anaesthetic effect to prevent vomiting during pregnancy.

3. Diet

There are some diet that the mother can eat if she finds difficult digesting both solid and liquid meal, such as liquid supplements, puddings, and protein bars to replace the lack of essential maternal nutrients. It can also cause bloating, acid reflux and gas. Eating small portions every 1 to 2 hours and separately eating and drinking can be helpful.

4. Lemon

Make sure to take fresh lemon juice. Make sure to Sip it after vomiting or whenever you feel nauseated. Smell the sweet lemon peel to ease vomiting and nausea. lemon has a soothing smell and a calming effect on your body. Make sure squeezing some lemon into a glass of water by adding some sugar and honey and drink it every morning to prevent any bouts of vomiting. Keeping it too long will make it bitter.

5. Water

Drinking lots of water keep the body hydrated. A pregnant woman should try to consume at least 2 litres of water daily in small amounts taken frequently.

6. Vitamin B6

Eating foods that is rich in vitamin B6 such as avocados, fish, nuts, brown rice, and banana reduces vomiting and nausea. Take one teaspoon of molasses every night before going to bed because it is rich in vitamin B6. Taking sufficient amount of vitamin B6 during pregnancy can help reduce nausea and vomiting.
