A 50 year-old angler, Idi Dahiru who resides in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria has been convicted for the murder of his 8-year-old son Ahmadu Idi, by the state High Court.

The 8-year-old was said to have refused attending Islamic school that the father has previously registered him. The refusal by this 8-year-old boy provoked the father and he had been severally beating the boy to that effect until a fateful day when a single act led to the boy’s death.

According to Dahiru who said that the death of his son was an accident, as he has no intention of killing him but to punish him as he found no reason why his son does not want to learn the doctrines of Islam.

“I done everything a human could do to make my son attend Islamic school to learn the doctrines of Allah but he refused, after a period of time I decided to take him to the village since he does not want to obey my instructions but he ran away. I chased him and when I got him, he falls on the ground struggling with me. I was provoked so I filled his mouth with sand and after some time I discovered he was dead, Dahirua stressed.”

The father of the 8-year-old boy Idi Dahiru was afraid of police arrest and what people will say when they found out he killed his own son, so, he threw the body of his son into a nearby river and pretended as if nothing ever happened.

The neighbors who alerted the police when they found the body of Ahmadu Idi at the riverbank, thereafter, the father of the 8-year-old boy was arrested by the police as neighbors testified that the fisherman had been consistently beating his son. Mr. Dahirua was later charged in court.

If you have these proofs we will be more than willing to consume the information. If you can't, then stop exposing your inability to engage in critical thinking. Post messages that will end the rancour, carnage and sow the seed of harmony in society. If you find yourself incapable of this simple task, then I implore adjure you not to clog the cyberspace with inciteful stories which serve no purpose than to tear the fabric of peaceful co-existence.

DARBY BOROUGH — A family gathering turned to tragedy on Christmas Day when a son was shot and killed by his father, according to Darby police.

Jordon Caldwell, 21, was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest in his family home in the 100 block of Ridge Avenue at about 2 p.m. Friday, said Chief Robert F. Smythe.

Caldwell was rushed to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a half-hour later.

Smythe said it appears Caldwell was shot by his father, Kirk Caldwell, 44, who got involved in a domestic dispute that started between his son and a girl.

Caldwell’s murder was the 21st homicide in the county this year and the third killing in Darby in 2009.

Smythe said it is still not clear exactly what led to the shooting, which was witnessed by 20 or more family and friends. Many of them were still in their slippers and pajamas when police responded to a 911 call, Smythe said.

“We’re trying to put it all together, but at this point what we’re saying is that it was a domestic and the father shot the son,” Smythe said.

Kirk Caldwell was being held by police, but had not been charged as of early Friday evening.

Smythe said he personally knows Caldwell, a pastor at the End Times Harvest Mission for Christ in Philadelphia, to be a “very good man.”

“We got to get to the bottom of the story. The family’s good people. We need to wait until we get through these interviews in the next several hours,” said Smythe.

Besides leading a congregation in Philadelphia, Caldwell has spoken out in the past about violence in Darby. In a July 9 vigil for another young shooting victim, Caldwell was quoted in the Daily Times cautioning residents not to take the law into their own hands.

“Retaliation is never the answer. Retaliation is only going to make it worse,” he said.

The official cause of Jordon Caldwell’s death is pending an autopsy by the Delaware County Medical Examiner.

KOLAR: In a ghastly incident, the decomposed bodies of two children were found in a eucalyptus grove near Shyanubhogarahalli village on the outskirts of the town on Sunday. The dead have been identified as Narasimhamurthy (7) and Nandini (5). Lakshman Reddy, father of the children, reportedly took them out from the hut on Thursday and allegedly strangled them and threw the bodies in the grove. Lakshman had killed his one-year-old son two years ago. A superstitious belief that his children are bad omen for his life reportedly forced Lakshman, a driver, to kill all his children.

The death of two children came to light when some dogs were carrying human flesh.

Preacher to hang for sin burnings

A Nigerian high court has sentenced a Lagos preacher to death by hanging for setting fire to members of his congregation, killing one woman.

Emeka Ezeuko, better known as Reverend King, was found guilty on one count of murder and five of attempted murder.

In July last year, he accused six members of his Christian Praying Assembly church of sinning by having extra-marital intimacy.

He poured petrol over them before setting them alight.

Ann Uzor died in hospital from her burns.

Rev King allegedly told members of his congregation that he was Jesus Christ, a claim that gave him the powers to punish sin.

The BBC's Umar Shehu Elleman who was in court said Rev King began to shiver when the sentence was passed and then started to shout angry protestations.

He claimed he was innocent and accused people of plotting against him.

His lawyer said it was a sad moment and an appeal would be considered after they had read the judgement papers in detail.

Our correspondent says there was a heavy security presence around the courtroom and congregation supporters were not allowed in.

(AP) The nine-year-old boy lay on a bloodstained hospital sheet crawling with ants, staring blindly at the wall.

His family pastor had accused him of being a witch, and his father then tried to force acid down his throat as an exorcism. It spilled as he struggled, burning away his face and eyes. The emaciated boy barely had strength left to whisper the name of the church that had denounced him - Mount Zion Lighthouse.

A month later, he died.

Nwanaokwo Edet was one of an increasing number of children in Africa accused of witchcraft by pastors and then tortured or killed, often by family members. Pastors were involved in half of 200 cases of "witch children" reviewed by the AP, and 13 churches were named in the case files.

Some of the churches involved are renegade local branches of international franchises. Their parishioners take literally the Biblical exhortation, "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live."

"It is an outrage what they are allowing to take place in the name of Christianity," said Gary Foxcroft, head of nonprofit Stepping Stones Nigeria.

For their part, the families are often extremely poor, and sometimes even relieved to have one less mouth to feed. Poverty, conflict and poor education lay the foundation for accusations, which are then triggered by the death of a relative, the loss of a job or the denunciation of a pastor on the make, said Martin Dawes, a spokesman for the United Nations Children's Fund.

"When communities come under pressure, they look for scapegoats," he said. "It plays into traditional beliefs that someone is responsible for a negative change , and children are defenseless."
