Anambra, South African firm sign $44m MOU to revamp Onitsha Water Scheme

The Anambra State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a quoted South African firm, EOH Industrial Technologies, for the revitalisation of the Onitsha Water Scheme at $44 million (N1.34bn).

Speaking at the occasion at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia near Awka on Thursday, Gov. Willie Obiano said the project would be carried out in three phases.

Obiano, who stated that the project would involve revitalisation and expansion of the Onitsha Water Scheme, added that this would entail conducting a feasibility study, inventory audit and calibration.

He said the intake facility at Nkpor water treatment plant and the Nkissi treatment plant at Onitsha would be reactivated.

The Governor said rehabilitation works would be carried out on the mains, pipelines, pumps, valves, reservoirs, boreholes and the reticulated tributaries to the households in all areas of Onitsha.

Obiano noted that the project was strategic to Onitsha, being one of the most populated towns in the country, and stressed the need to modernise infrastructure and other basic amenities in the area.

He said his administration’s desire was to revamp 376 moribund water schemes built by the previous administrations in partnership with the UNESCO.

The governor, who assured that most of the water schemes will become functional within four months, urged the South African firm to commence work immediately on the Onitsha Water Scheme.

Earlier, Igwe Cyril Enweze, Chairman, Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), said when completed, the project would ensure provision of potable water to the people.

Omo, the rate at which those parasites have started flooding Oshogbo is scary. They've been seeing pix of the all-round development going on in Osun and have started fleeing their villages for Oshogbo. Seriously, their governors need to get to work to stem the tide. They need to sit their butts back in their villages and develop themselves.

People often move to where they can develop economically.
Igbos migrating to Yorubaland in huge droves shows 1) The SW is the most developed region in Nigeria 2) The SE is underdeveloped and it continues to retrogress.

Development
1. Urban planning
2. Sustainable infrastructure
3. Jobs and business opportunities

These are the 3 major factors of development that has grown in Yorubaland over the last 5 years. The developmental growth is crazy amazing!

Two things are going to happen in a couple of years

1. Nigeria's disintegration

2. Federalism

Nigeria-as-is is neither growing nor sustainable.

When things change, Yorubaland will be okay. Iboland will struggle to survive.

Igbos are crabbing the little lift in your states

South-west states rank poorly in debt, sustainability report

Some states in the South-west region have been listed to be barely sustainable as they ranked poorly in a new fiscal sustainability report released by civic advocacy platform, BudgIT.

The report, which looked into the viability of states in Nigeria, was titled “State of States” and was launched by the civic group last week in Abuja.

According to the report, Ekiti and Osun states ranked 35th and 36th positions respectively in the Fiscal Sustainability Index as the two states were placed on the bottom of the list among the 36 states of the federation.

Oyo and Ondo states were also placed on the 30th and 25th positions respectively

Yet the SE is struggling with the North as the poorest region in Nigeria. No investment. No infrastructure. Bad roads. Mass emigration. Name it, SE is not viable for success.

Why the mass emigration in Iboland if it's developed?

You are right. One cannot but pity them. You can't blame nor fault a person trying to escape poverty for the good life the West side offers. It's the same reason most people in the world prefer to migrate to the Western countries than the Eastern ones. No be by mistake say we dey on the West [best] side. undecided These people will be willing to enter the SW via Libya sef if need be. grin

You gotta come to the best side to enjoy the goodness of life. All their Anambla glorified flyovers are already cracking and falling apart. Lol.

Aside Salary debt, this man has really tried for Osun in terms of Infrastructure, Education and Industrialisation.

I hope he would use next year to pay the salary deficit of Osun civil servants. This would leave no room for an opposition party to win election this state
