Please Do Hausa people still have culture again or are they practicing Islam as both religion and culture... all the law ruling there land are connected to islam. Both their sultan and emir are all working for islam. They also adopted arabic/Islamic names as their sur names. Am now beleiving that they are truly conquered tribe by fulani /islamic missionaries. Please i need answer, No hating.

What and who do you think are Hausas? There are Hausa Christians, how do you justify your question?
Re: Please Do Hausa Tribe Practice Their Culture Or Only Islamic Laws Rule Them. by Sapiosexuality(m): 8:14am On Dec 18, 2017
Yes, they do have a culture but it has been mixed so much with religion that you'd need a third eye to see. It is common in all parts of Nigeria but theirs seem worse. Most don't even bear Hausa names anymore. Aminu, Kabiru, Bello replaced with Abdul-suffixes.

At least they still teach their children their language. My Igbo brothers are losing theirs on a geometric scale. Speaking English to their kids and when you ask why they can't speak Igbo they tell you the child can't learn the language. Iberibe!

Very ignorant comment. There are no Arab or fula influence in Hausa culture. If anything it's the other way round.

There are Hausa pagans but I'm yet to see a Hausa Christian being a northerner and living in the north all my life. If there are they must be a new breed of converts. But religion should not affect Hausa culture. Hausa culture is one and shame regardless of religion.

What are you people smoking? May be true for some nomads in some cases but generalizing like this is very inaccurate. Have you ever seen any urban fulani wedding where the husband is whipped?

Sharia is different from culture. Just like living under constitution doesn't mean you've lost your culture.

Islamic names are not a new thing in Hausa land but most hausas use a hausa surname. Islamic influence in Hausa land has nothing to do with Arabs and little to do with the fulani. The first recorded Islamic Jihad in sudanic Africa was fought by a hausa king a few hundred years before the fula Jihad.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaji_I

Heres the full list of hausa kings in kano. Notice even before but especially after Ali Yajis jihad they were using islamic names so this is not the result of being "conquered". The arabs and fulas had nothing to do with this.

Kings of The Kingdom of Kano
Bagauda dan Bawo, Jikan Bayajidda (ruled 999-1063)
Warisi dan Bagauda (ruled 1063-1095)
Gijimasu dan Warisi (ruled 1095-1134)
Nawata (ruled 1134-1136)
Yusa (ruled 1136-1194)
Naguji (ruled 1194-1247)
Guguwa (ruled 1247-1290)
Shekarau (ruled 1290-1307)
Tsamiya (ruled 1307-1343)
Usmanu Zamnagawa (ruled 1343-1349)
Ali Yaji I dan Tsamiya (ruled 1349-1385)

Sultans of Kano, Kano Sultanate
Ali Yaji I (ruled 1349-1385)
Bugaya (ruled 1385-1390)
Kanejeji (ruled 1390-1410)
Umaru (ruled 1410-1421)
Daud (ruled 1421-1438)
Abdullah Burja (ruled 1438-1452)
Dakauta (ruled 1452)
Atuma (ruled 1452)
Yaquled (1452-1463)
Muhammadu Rumfa (ruled 1463-1499)
Abdullahi dan Rumfa (ruled 1499-1509)

Kanoan Empire
Muhammad Kisoki (ruled 1509-1565)
Yakubu (ruled 1565)
Abu-Bakr Kado (ruled 1565-1573)
Muhammad Shashere (ruled 1573-1582)
Muhammad Zaki (ruled 1582-1618)
Muhammad Nazaki (ruled 1618-1623)

Kano Sultanate
House of Kutumbi (the last Hausa dynasty before fula)
Kutumbi (ruled 1623-1648)
al-Hajj (ruled 1648-1649)
Shekarau (emir) (ruled 1649-1651)
Muhammad Kukuna (ruled 1651-1652)
Soyaki (ruled 1652 he ruled Kano in those days)
Muhammad Kukuna (restored) (ruled 1652-1660)
Bawa (ruled 1660-1670)
Dadi (ruled 1670-1703)
Muhammad Sharif (ruled 1703-1731)
Kumbari (ruled 1731-1743)
al-Hajj Kabe (ruled 1743-1753)
Yaji II (ruled 1753-1768)
Baba Zaki (ruled 1768-1776)
Daud Abasama II (ruled 1776-1781)
Muhammad al-Walid (ruled 1781-1805)

Marriage, way of life and everything else is Hausa though the only difference is it incorporates mandatory islamic aspects into it.

Fulani today speak Hausa, dress like Hausa, live within Hausa culture all round. The emirs use the administrative system created by hausa kings like muhammad rumfa, they mostly can't even speak fulfulde. And these are the people that have subdued hausa culture? Lol

Lol! I repeat, I'm a hausa person who has been to areas of hausa land you can't imagine. I've seen pagans but never Christians. If there are then they must be recent converts who represent less than 1% and so have little to do with overall Hausa identity.

Stop trying to tell me about my own people.

No need for any secret discussions. Anything you want to say you can post here for everyone to learn from. This is the purpose of threads like this, enlightenment. Besides, If they are so rare you have to find them then like i said they are irrelevant to Hausa identity as a whole.

If truly you are a Northerner living in the north then I think you are being economical with the truth about Hausa Christians. There are Hausa Christians in Kaduna(makarfi, ikara), Zamfara(tsafe, bungudu), kano and Katsina. Please don't allow religious sentiment to be cloud your reason. This is a known FACT!

Lol! There are no Hausas in all those LGs you mentioned. As far as kano and katsina, again I know pagans but not Christians. This is the fact, I don't know what lies people are feeding you but Hausas have almost unanimously never subscribed to Christianity except in the case of the very very few recent Muslim converts and pagan converts. Even so their numbers are so minimal you cant point to them when speaking about the whole.

It is very possible that some of them at least are not true Hausas, but 'Hausanized' ethnic minorities in the North. I once met this guy; he had a Christian first name and an Hausa last name (let me call him Sam Auta). I told him he was the first Hausa Christian I was meeting. He told me he wasn't Hausa, and that he was from southern Kaduna.

But he told me one interesting thing, which is that the Maguzawa (pagan Hausas) are beginning to embrace Christianity or a syncretic form of Christianity.

Exactly! Christian minority groups use hausa names more often than actual hausas do.

The last part is also very true, christian missionaries are doing a very good job at targeting the pagan Hausa communities recently.
