Anambra is indeed blessed. Anambra state has many artistically talented individuals especially the youths. The arts sector in Anambra state is experiencing what I may call a paradigm shift since the inclusion of indigenous arts into the ministry by His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano and making Barr. Sally Mbanefo the Commissioner for Indigenous Artworks, Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism. On Saturday 5th May there was another block buster art exhibition organized by young artists called Ije movement . The Commissioner for Indigenous Artworks, Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism Barr. Sally Mbanefo who was represented by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism Mrs Ngozi Ogbuekwe while commenting on the theme of the exhibition which is Destiny said that the government of Anambra is all out to make Anambra a hub of artistic activities and a reference point in arts.#ijemovement

Anambra:Working to reposition arts and touch lives
The Anambra state government says it will reposition the arts sector, to make the state a reference point in art works.
The Anambra state Commissioner for Indigenous Artworks, Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism, Barr. Sally Mbanefo, made this known during the official flag off of the ongoing four days arts exhibition organised by Society of Nigeria Artists, SNA, Anambra state chapter at Nibo in Awka South local govt area of the state.
The Commissioner who described her appointment in the ministry as a dream come true, assured the artists in the state of more favourable atmosphere to operate.
Speaking further, Mrs Mbanefo, called on parents and guardians to encourage and support their children and wards that are artistically talented, as the field makes one self reliant and could serve as remedy to the prevailing problem of unemployment amongst the youths in the country.
Speaking earlier during the exhibition the state chairman Society of Artists, SNA, sculptor Tony Otikpa, while appreciating the commissioner on her visit and lofty vision in the sector, assured her of their smooth partnership with the ministry .

He further listed some major challenges in Arts sector like like the lack of arts village and low patronage.
Also some of the exhibitors including the Managing Director of National lights Newspapers, Mr. Chuka Nnabuife and a senior lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof. Clifford Nwanna, while describing arts as the totality of what man can create and an expression of life, called for people's attitudinal change towards arts as man can not do without it.
In a separate Remark, Nze Uche Nworah, the managing Director of Trig Point Hotels who is an art collector Mr. Chukwudi Ogbuefi, expressed delight in witnessing such an event and prays for sustenance.
Highlight of the event was inspection of Artworks by the commissioner and others that graced the occasion.

Ad-hoc committee on waste evacuation set up by Governor Obiano, teams with ASWAMA to attack waste across the state.

Kenechukwu Ofomah

6 Payloaders and about 15 tippers trucks divided across six sections are presently working to tackle the waste evacuation challenges in the State Capital Territory.
This is the outcome of efforts by an ad-hoc committee set up by Governor Willie Obiano to complement the activities of the State Waste Management Agency, ASWAMA, in effectively handling waste issues with the coming of the rains.
The exercise which is also ongoing across major cities of the State is supervised jointly by key State Government Functionaries who are members of the ad-hoc committee and ASWAMA officials.

I support this move. I am tired of how inconsiderate some people are when they build their fences. They don't leave rooms for drainage or sidewalks or for future road expansion.

Anambra Govt Warns Against Excarvation In Government Layouts

Excavators of stone and sand in government layouts are to be prosecuted by the state government.

Speaking during an inspection of government layouts in the state, the Commissioner for Lands, Physical planning and Rural Development, Honourable Nnamdi Onukwuba, said that the state government will henceforth take severe disciplinary measures against sand and stone excavators in government layout in the state.

Commissioner Onukwuba said that sand and stone excavators constitute economic crime against the state as it scares away investors who have been allocated such plots, stressing that such is counterproductive to Governor Willie Obiano’s efforts to attract investors to the state.

He said that huge gullies developed in parts of these layouts as a result of continuous excavation which has rendered them vulnerable to soil erosion, pointing out that anybody who indulges in sand and stone excavation is deemed to be an enemy of the state.

The Commissioner enjoined Anambra state Physical Planning Board to strictly monitor unauthorized developments in all Government layouts in the state to ensure proper development control in such layouts with a view to checking the excesses of trespassers.

Also speaking , the General Manager of Anambra state Planning Board, Mr. Victor Okpoko, who accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection tour said that henceforth, the Board will institute legal action against owners of demolished illegal structures in government layouts to recover the cost of removing such structures.

This is contained in a press statement signed by the chairman, Anambra state Physical Planning Board, Barrister Chike Mmaduekwe.

The statement noted that the illegal structures especially those within Onitsha, Nkpor, Awka metropolis and around major market areas, have been duly marked by the Board for proper identification .

It also added that failure to remove the structures would cause the Board to remove same and recover all costs expended by the Board from the developers.
