What Do You Think Of People Who Cheat Their Way Through School by sophy09: 11:37pm On Apr 05, 2010
I am studying for my MBA program in Canada, meeting deadlines and at the same time having to work and feed my way through school is not easy. I later figured out that most of the people here buy essays, reports and projects online. Is it not cheating? When I spoke to someone about it, he said there is nothing wrong with it. He said with the amount of money I paid to study here do I want to fail? I don't want to fail but to me this is wrong.

I'll like to know if buying essay is cheating?

Education is now a commercial commodity.
People invest in high-sounding degrees to reap bountiful highly-paid 'careers'.
No real work is being done anymore. Just a global scam.
Re: What Do You Think Of People Who Cheat Their Way Through School by sophy09: 5:16am On Apr 06, 2010
So what is the point really. After University degree in Nigeria, I could not get a profitable job worked for 6 years in the same position. A friend advise me to try and get my masters degree in a foreign country. So here I am trying to make ends meet. My grades are not good to my exceptions because I have to study and work at the same time. But the ones that do not work tend to buy essays online and they get a higher grade. It is really disappointing and the teachers know about it they just turn the other way to act as if they don't know what is happening.

So join the bandwagon abi.
You're already in it, so get with the program grin

But seriously, it's pathetic. I really don't know how to advise you on this one. The consequences of getting not so good grades in this so-called competitive world are dire.

LOL. You got that right.
I don't want to say I am disillusioned. But this whole career thing is just not what it's cracked up to be jare.
Re: What Do You Think Of People Who Cheat Their Way Through School by Wallie(m): 8:51pm On Apr 08, 2010
If you do it, just don’t get caught because the consequences are dire! Passing off someone else’s work as your own (not citing it) is plagiarism. Just remember that a Prof can google phrases or have familiarity with your source.

I understand what you’re going through combining work & school because I went through the same thing and it is definitely not for everybody!

My only advice to you is that course supplements/outlines are your friend. Learn to use them wisely and you’ll not only succeed but also excel. Always buy at least a couple of supplements/outlines per course and you’d be fine.
Re: What Do You Think Of People Who Cheat Their Way Through School by sophy09: 10:10pm On Apr 08, 2010
What do you mean by course supplement?
Re: What Do You Think Of People Who Cheat Their Way Through School by Wallie(m): 10:21pm On Apr 08, 2010
Assuming you’re taking a course on Venture Capital and Private Equity

Supplements might be:
1. Term Sheets & Valuations - A Line by Line Look at the Intricacies of Venture Capital Term Sheets & Valuations
2. Venture Capital Due Diligence: A Guide to Making Smart Investment Choices and Increasing Your Portfolio Returns

Basically, anything that summarizes or better explains the topic you're covering.

like all other decisions in life, there are pros and cons, it's natural to dislike/hate people that cheat and get better grades, (and it makes things seem better for a while too) but eventually you'll have to realize, it's their life, and the decisions they take are their biz not yours, went through this in uni and it wasn't until after i finished that i came to realize that paying too much attention to the decisions other people take is an excuse for you not to put in your best.

i'm with wallie on this, put in your best and take decisions you'll be proud of in the long-term, if cheating isn't you, then damn the consequences, it never pays to take panadol for another persons headache.

by the way, the reason why you're not cheating is also important, some people wont, not because they think it's wrong or not, but rather because they're proud, i think that's stupid. . .lol

hi guys i just read this post and laughed out loud at the poster, what did hell r u doing whinning over other peoples decision, i was once like you one time when i was in uni, i would snub at those who cheat and will have nothing to do with them, but at the end what happens??, em, they get the good grades! shocked and get a good job with it and nobdy gives a hoot whether the certificate is bought or not ,whether they have any thing upstairs or not! BUT, and A BIG BUT, one thing still remains there things u can get away with and there are things you cannot get a with!!
i will give u an examplea friend of mine was smart enough to jamesbond his way into school and jamesbond a good grade with it, he applied for ajob with grade and got the job, a mouth watering job with one of the oil servicing giants, he was immediately made the head of the engineering drilling team but guess what?, he failed woefully, he did not know how to coodinate a team to carry out a project without overshooting budget thats one ,
another example is somebody who saw an advert for an engineering job, took someones cv that matched the criteria for that job,did some cosmetic surgerry on the cv and submitted and the day of the interview,he was takent o the site and told to practicalise what he claimed to know, but alas my guy goofed, infact if not for the intervention of the white man that was supervising he would killed himself and everybody else for that matter,so like i said, there things u can get away with and there THINGS u just cannot not get away with, experience and technically know how is one of them,
you cannot cheat to get experience, what u dont know ,men u bleeping ,dont know!!
take SAP for intance ,how can u cheat on that?, or is it project management ?, so thats just my 2 kobo, or is it two cent? shocked me i know sabi

The more you put into an MBA program, the more you get from it and vice versa. You shouldn't be concerned about cheats except your school uses the gauss bell to determine grades.

Also most schools use different programs to catch cheats.

I just hope you are not looking for an excuse to, you know well enough that studying and working will be difficult so
looking at what others are doing is sounding like an excuse o

You can always do it part time abi spread the time over a longer period giving you more time to rest after work and study

I am not whining or thinking of other people's case. That is their problem. The thing that is really pissing me off is the fact that after all these stress you go through with school what is the guarantee that you will get a good job after all that wahala. I remember back in Nigeria with all the stress i went thro in school, no job after the whole thing.

I feel sorry for those who cheat their way through school. It might seem like the easy way out but only time will tell. On the other hand, if you study hard in school and it seems like your grades arent what you expect them to be, it is not terrible because you only need to put in more work and you will excel in that particular endeavour.

Never ever bother about those who "pay" their way through school because they have a lot of shockers awaiting them in the future but those who did the right thing while in school will surely be vindicated!! smiley smiley

Make a great day!!!

Professional cheats in the making. They will cheat in future in any endeavour they find themselves. Such persons believe that life is a jungle where anything goes. They believe that the end justifies the means. It is a pity.

This is a farewell letter from Andrew Lahde to his investors, he made about 1000% return on subprime mortgage defaults. He betted against them, this was in part due to his pure understanding of real estate finance and "idiots" and "cheats" who made their way through thru college
Simply put, people who cheated their way thru college made him rich.
Hang in there.

Andrew Lahde of Lahde Capital Management’s farewell letter to his investors in 2007.

Today I write not to gloat. Given the pain that nearly everyone is experiencing, that would be entirely inappropriate. Nor am I writing to make further predictions, as most of my forecasts in previous letters have unfolded or are in the process of unfolding. Instead, I am writing to say goodbye.

Recently, on the front page of Section C of the Wall Street Journal, a hedge fund manager who was also closing up shop (a $300 million fund), was quoted as saying, “What I have learned about the hedge fund business is that I hate it.” I could not agree more with that statement. I was in this game for the money. The low hanging fruit, i.e. idiots whose parents paid for prep school, Yale, and then the Harvard MBA, was there for the taking. These people who were (often) truly not worthy of the education they received (or supposedly received) rose to the top of companies such as AIG, Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers and all levels of our government. All of this behavior supporting the Aristocracy only ended up making it easier for me to find people stupid enough to take the other side of my trades. God bless America.

There are far too many people for me to sincerely thank for my success. However, I do not want to sound like a Hollywood actor accepting an award. The money was reward enough. Furthermore, the endless list of those deserving thanks know who they are.

I will no longer manage money for other people or institutions. I have enough of my own wealth to manage. Some people, who think they have arrived at a reasonable estimate of my net worth, might be surprised that I would call it quits with such a small war chest. That is fine; I am content with my rewards. Moreover, I will let others try to amass nine, ten or eleven figure net worths. Meanwhile, their lives suck. Appointments back to back, booked solid for the next three months, they lookforward to their two week vacation in January during which they will likely be glued to their Blackberries or other such devices. What is the point? They will all be forgotten in fifty years anyway. Steve Balmer, Steven Cohen, and Larry Ellison will all be forgotten. I do not understand the legacy thing. Nearly everyone will be forgotten. Give up on leaving your mark. Throw the Blackberry away and enjoy life.

So this is it. With all due respect, I am dropping out. Please do not expect any type of reply to emails or voicemails within normal time frames or at all. Andy Springer and his company will be handling the dissolution of the fund. And don’t worry about my employees, they were always employed by Mr. Springer’s company and only one (who has been well-rewarded) will lose his job.

I have no interest in any deals in which anyone would like me to participate. I truly do not have a strong opinion about any market right now, other than to say that things will continue to get worse for some time, probably years. I am content sitting on the sidelines and waiting. After all, sitting and waiting is how we made money from the subprime debacle. I now have time to repair my health, which was destroyed by the stress I layered onto myself over the past two years, as well as my entire life – where I had to compete for spaces in universities and graduate schools, jobs and assets under management – with those who had all the advantages (rich parents) that I did not. May meritocracy be part of a new form of government, which needs to be established.

On the issue of the U.S. Government, I would like to make a modest proposal. First, I point out the obvious flaws, whereby legislation was repeatedly brought forth to Congress over the past eight years, which would have reigned in the predatory lending practices of now mostly defunct institutions. These institutions regularly filled the coffers of both parties in return for voting down all of this legislation designed to protect the common citizen. This is an outrage, yet no one seems to know or care about it. Since Thomas Jefferson and Adam Smith passed, I would argue that there has been a dearth of worthy philosophers in this country, at least ones focused on improving government. Capitalism worked for two hundred years, but times change, and systems become corrupt. George Soros, a man of staggering wealth, has stated that he would like to be remembered as a philosopher. My suggestion is that this great man start and sponsor a forum for great minds to come together to create a new system of government that truly represents the common man’s interest, while at the same time creating rewards great enough to attract the best and brightest minds to serve in government roles without having to rely on corruption to further their interests or lifestyles. This forum could be similar to the one used to create the operating system, Linux, which competes with Microsoft’s near monopoly. I believe there is an answer, but for now the system is clearly broken.

Lastly, while I still have an audience, I would like to bring attention to an alternative food and energy source. You won’t see it included in BP’s, “Feel good. We are working on sustainable solutions,” television commercials, nor is it mentioned in ADM’s similar commercials. But hemp has been used for at least 5,000 years for cloth and food, as well as just about everything that is produced from petroleum products. Hemp is not marijuana and vice versa. Hemp is the male plant and it grows like a weed, hence the slang term. The original American flag was made of hemp fiber and our Constitution was printed on paper made of hemp. It was used as recently as World War II by the U.S. Government, and then promptly made illegal after the war was won. At a time when rhetoric is flying about becoming more self-sufficient in terms of energy, why is it illegal to grow this plant in this country? Ah, the female. The evil female plant – marijuana. It gets you high, it makes you laugh, it does not produce a hangover. Unlike alcohol, it does not result in bar fights or wife beating. So, why is this innocuous plant illegal? Is it a gateway drug? No, that would be alcohol, which is so heavily advertised in this country. My only conclusion as to why it is illegal, is that Corporate America, which owns Congress, would rather sell you Paxil, Zoloft, Xanax and other addictive drugs, than allow you to grow a plant in your home without some of the profits going into their coffers. This policy is ludicrous. It has surely contributed to our dependency on foreign energy sources. Our policies have other countries literally laughing at our stupidity, most notably Canada, as well as several European nations (both Eastern and Western). You would not know this by paying attention to U.S. media sources though, as they tend not to elaborate on who is laughing at the United States this week. Please people, let’s stop the rhetoric and start thinking about how we can truly become self-sufficient.

With that I say goodbye and good luck.

All the best,

Andrew Lahde

Look, i was @ the NYSC orientation camp in Abuja, trying to get my discharge certificate and while the lady was checking for the certificate, two Hausa guys came in and wanted to collect their certificates too, the other lady looked for theirs and after giving it to them asked them to write their names and sign. One of the guys COULD NOT, i repeat, COULD NOT spell his name! I was there live and direct!! His brother had to help him write his name. Not forgetting that they came with a written note from whomever to get their certificates! My point is that these people go out into the Job market with notes from top notches to get jobs from them while people like us who have passed through the thick and rough walls of the university are busy applying everywhere! But like FRENCHYL said, they will pay for it wherever they go, so my dear, read and do the best u can, there's no need crying foul, Let them continue, it will surely catch up with them.
