Believers, see Romans 5:20: "The law was given so that sin would increase. But where sin increased, God’s grace increased even more."

Paul preached the gospel as it is written above and the religious people of his time falsely accused him of preaching that it is okay to sin because of grace. See this in Romans 3:8- "Some people are actually trying to put such words in our mouths, claiming that we go around saying, “The more evil we do, the more good God does, so let’s just do it!” That’s pure slander, as I’m sure you’ll agree."

But how is it that "where sin increased, God’s grace increased even more?" What does this mean?

We see how God's grace increased even more in the life of Peter. He boasted that he would not deny Christ, rose to Jesus' defence in Gethsemane and even cut off someone's ear, ready to fight for Christ! But in the end, he denied Christ...three times!... with swearing and cursing...and the first time upon being accused by a servant girl. The arm of flesh will fail. Imagine Peter remembering Christ's words in Matt. 10:33- "but whoever denies Me before men, I also will deny before My Father who is in heaven." How fallen and lost he must have felt.

But check out what happened on resurrection morning in Mark 17- the women who were going to anoint Jesus' body were shocked to see an angel in the tomb,

6 "but the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid His body. 7 Now go and tell His disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see Him there, just as He told you before He died.”

See "go and tell His disciples, including Peter..." Why the special mention of Peter's name and not that of any other disciple? It is because "But where sin increased, God’s grace increased even more." All of the disciples fled and went into hiding, but the one who many of us see as having "failed the most" among them got a special mention.

Did you know that Peter, the one who denied Christ three times, was also the first of all of the remaining disciples to see the resurrected Jesus Christ? We see this in Luke 24:34 and 1 Corinthians 15:5. Super-abounding Grace.

Then came the Day of Pentecost– Peter who had been so scared of being associated with our Saviour after His arrest, who lied upon being accused by a simple servant girl and then two more times, the one who many of us see as "failed the most" among the disciples, preached a sermon (in public!) that got 3,000 people saved. No fear of the teachers of religious law and Pharisees who were still out to get Jesus' followers. Through the power of Christ in him, the dead were raised to life and the sick were healed! Today, Peter who denied Jesus three times is regarded as a pillar of the early church!

This is the effect of super-abounding Grace. It swallows up sin and transforms us from Simon (meaning Reed, easily swayed by the elements) to Peter (meaning Rock- bold and unshakable in Christ.) Truly, "...But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more," Not just one batch of grace; it continues forever: "From His fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace," John 1:16.

Believers, believe right. "Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound...." The Ten Commandments that many are struggling to obey in order to get into God's good graces is designed to make the offence (sin) abound. Sin multiplies when one tries to get right with God by obeying the Ten Commandments.

We see this again in Romans 7:14- "For sin shall not have dominion over you for you are not under law but under grace." But many who profess Christ have this backwards.

Believers, only the sinless blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ can make us righteous in God's sight. Depend on your own obedience to the law to get right with God and sin will increase. Rely on the obedience of Jesus Christ (Grace personified) to make you righteous (Romans 5:19) and you will not continue to live in sin. See Romans 5:17-

"For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)"

Receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness and you will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ, including reign over sin.

This is awesome!

Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Romans 6:1.
This is the verse thrown at you when you try to preach grace by those who are uncomfortable with it and see preaching grace as encouraging sin. It is not necessarily so.It should be preached and not abused. Grace abounds when we sin, but must we sin on that account, knowing God does not want us to? This is what Romans 6:1 is saying. It flows directly from 5:20
And we do not set aside the law when we preach grace or insist that salvation comes by faith alone, rather it is when we have faith that we are able to keep the law. 3:31. Not to be saved thereby though. Gal. 2:16,21; Hebrews 7:11.

Yeah bro..

Bro, the gospel of grace is the gospel of humility. God receives all the credit and the believer receives nothing in terms of credit and praise...

Only the prideful in heart will reject the message of grace.

Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 6:2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 6:5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. 6:13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. 6:20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. 6:21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

***steeped and soaked in utter suspension of belief*** perhaps Africa's largest christian people and the world's 3rd largest christian population have sinned soo much that God no longer punishes us for anything from rape , murder, deception, fornication & adultery, idolatry, robbery and child-molestation all happening in the body of Christ! shocked shocked If many are drowning in gullibility and ignorance.. I am proud to at least remember the sermon on the mount.. keep on with your sins while Jesus tarries and God pours out more grace. It is no longer by Righteousness Faith and Spirituality (works) anymore .. it is by Unmerited Favor (Grace) and cheating.. una do well ooh

Please, are we trying to encourage sin here. Some of us here, like me,are new believers growing daily in the Words and to my own understanding peter was mentioned by the angels may be because he had denied Christ.Well the Op might be right by saying he enjoyed an uncommon favour there. But are we not really encouraging sin here.

The law is put as check and balance. Breaking certain laws there can be consequences from God and even man bt simply fufilling the law can not save u. In fact we cannot even fulfil the whole laws. Hence we need grace and faith and God gave us that through his son. The word of God is True wisdom! I love it
