From Senator Iroegbu in Abuja, 04.12.2010
The raging controversy over whether or not Professor Maurice Iwu as the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be reappointed, has continued to draw local and international attention with conference of South East Speakers adding their voice.

The Speakers at the weekend strongly recommended that Iwu should be re-appointed after the expiration of his tenure in June, 2010.

The Speakers made this declaration when they paid a solidarity visit to Professor Iwu in his office at the INEC Headquarters, Abuja, where they condemned the recent calls for his removal In a statement signed by the Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Honourable Augustine Nwankwoagu; Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Honourable Agwu U. Agwu; Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Honourable Anayo Anebe, and that of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Barrister Eugene Odo, they passed a vote of absolute confidence on the present leadership of the Commission.

The conference argued that it would be pedestrian to place the problems of elections in Nigeria on Iwu alone, and noted that rather than identifying the nation's electoral woes as collective failure of the Nigerian polity, the electorate and security agencies, “Professor Iwu was being singled out to be slaughtered on the altar of minority
rascality”.

In his response, Iwu said he treasured the visit of the Speakers because even though he was a Nigerian, he also had a home base, which appreciated his efforts at nurturing and consolidating Nigeria’s democracy. He said that INEC under his watch had introduced reforms such as the use of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in place of ad-hoc staff, the declaration of election results at polling units, adequate training of staff, the use of electronic voters’ register, which he said, made it difficult for unscrupulous Nigerians to perpetrate electoral fraud.

They have lost already. We have new INEC Chairman in the making. Habi na by force make person serve twice. We have even allowed him finish his tenure. Can they win an elections without him if they are sure of themselves? Infact, we have gotten white house approval for his replacement. smiley

Re: S’east Speakers Back Iwu For Re-appointment by Mbeki: 3:42pm On Apr 12, 2010
it's not that Iwu is from SE, it's because they want to come back at all cost, and by supporting Iwu re-appointment, they're sure to be paid back with re-rigelection.
Idiots, they are on their own.
THEY WILL SEE IWU FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!!! Criminals from SE
Re: S’east Speakers Back Iwu For Re-appointment by chidichris(m): 3:55pm On Apr 12, 2010
the s east criminals want iwu to remain just for their sole interests of remaining power via their do or die affairs without considering how that is affecting the masses.
God will surely punish all of them.

What different does that bring/make? NYSC members on a slight offer of a token can do even what you can not imagine. IWU please take a bow!

Back bone or no back bone they are waisting their time and energy. Iwu must go! Let them not feel he can let go another state just like that. Iwu just attempted making himself a saint with Anambra.

Here you go again. Does it occur to you that they may actually be doing their own "Nigerian politics"?

Personally, I want Iwu to go because he should have resigned when OBJ wanted to use him to steal elections in Nigeria. But saying that these guys were paid is childish and pedestrian.

Which Yoruba man support OBJ? This thread is about Iwu and South East politicians what does this have to do with any Yoruba man? How many Yoruba politicians are behind OBJ? Is it not Igbos and Hausas that made him powerful? We voted an intellectual (Falae} y'all voted an old dirt bag. AC won most states in South West during the 1999 election from what I heard but you Igbos opted for PDP and their corrupt sets of dirt bags. How did the Yorubas support OBJ? So when the South east politicians got caught in an act of stupidity the next best thing is to accuse Yorubas of stupidity? Una nefa starti

Is it not just classic how we always ditch the chance to make a positive change with our tribalistic mindset? What has Iwu done that entitles him to yet another spell as electoral umpire? The re.tard actually shortchanged us and those clowns are 'begging' him back?

Kwende, with due respect, you are a fool. To call Igbos name that money has changed hands shows how myopic you are. Am a true son of Igbo land but i have cried out for iwu to go. For me his best name is Maurice wuru wuru. We need Dora in INEC pls.
Re: S’east Speakers Back Iwu For Re-appointment by obyann(f): 10:38am On Apr 14, 2010
PDP at work again. Its PDP that is talking through the so called SE. For me, MI has not helped Nigerians in any way during his tenure. He is one of the bad eggs we have in this country. He should quit that seat. Lets give another person a chance and it must not be a Papa deceive pikin member.

grin grin grin I think he was just talking about tribalism in Nigeria. come to think of it, Majority of Northerners still want Yaradua as president of Nigeria. There were Yorubas that supported OBJ during his tenure and a lot of them wanted him out. Those of them that supported him was because they were getting something from him cheesy cheesy cheesy
Re: S’east Speakers Back Iwu For Re-appointment by jenuel: 8:21pm On Apr 14, 2010
I am not surprised at their visit. He rigged them into power and some are seeking re-election. They need him desperately. Some of the hired " pro- Iwu''' protests are sponsored by them and their likes.

my friend sharap there, Yorubas supported Obj, their only beef with him was that he didnt share the money with odua peeps instead was a very stingy baboon that preferred his hausa masters,

Now I dont support Iwu a bit, But what do u expect in a country where abacha and IBB still have support in the North, Obj has suport in the SW so isn't it logical that the likes of IWU (even though he aint got no clout like the others) should get support too?
