It was a beautiful dress
Worn by royalty
Its very existence a declaration of Victory
It was a grand dress
From a Vast and wealthy Kingdom
But What Kingdom?
Surely not the great Kingdom of her mothers
It was a lovely dress
But a borrowed one nonetheless
She wore it self-consciously
Often Ill at ease
She tried to make it fit
A little shorter here
A little tighter there
Yet it hung heavy on her hips
And loose around her neck

Then one day she reached for the other one
Hanging idly in the wardrobe for so long
Hard to believe it had it been there all along
Cautiously, she slipped it on
This dress was different
It sat easily on her frame
Rising and falling in all the right places
O – LO – HI,
An Exhalation
Light as air
RE – RE,
A deep soft rumble
Grounded in the thick red earth of her homeland
This dress felt like it was made for her
It wrapped itself around her frame
Light and free
Yet heavy with meaning
Weighty with intent
