Obasanjo's son files for divorce, "My wife can't cook" - Gbenga

Gbenga Obasanjo, the first son of President Olusegun Obasanjo, is proving that he is every inch a chip off the old block. That was the reaction of many Nigerians to the story broken by P.M.News that the President’s first son has filed a divorce suit against his wife of six years, Mojisola, daughter of distinguished businessman, Chief Alex Onabanjo.

Though the couple have been living apart for some time now, the suit was filed last year, precisely on Tuesday, 28 December, at the Ikeja High Court. Gbenga cited incompatibility as one of the grounds for the divorce. The first son of the first citizen also did not spare his father in-law in an interview with TheNEWS magazine.

“I can’t stay in the same room with my father in-law. I am divorcing my wife. You know I would have loved to show you the papers, but I don’t want you to know my house,” Gbenga said in the interview. Ironically, the engagement ceremony which preceded the wedding of Gbenga and Moji Alex-Onabanjo, was the talk of the town when it took place in 2000.

Virtually all the serving ministers, state governors, captains of industry and notable personalities graced the occasion .

P.M.News gathered that the immediate reason for the twist in the relationship of the former love birds was Moji's inability to cook her husband's meal. Gbenga, it was gathered, had insisted that rather than the househelp, Moji should be the one to prepare his meals.

The president’s son, it was gathered, consequently sent the househelp packing, but helpless Moji recalled her. Gbenga, it was learned, became infuriated and sent the maid packing the second time. The medical doctor was also said to have been disappointed in his father in-law, who took sides with his daughter and failed to admonish her to return to her matrimonial home to prepare simple meals.

Gbenga seems to have taken after his father who has a penchant of living separately from many of his women. Remi, the mother of Gbenga and Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, the incumbent Commissioner of Health in Ogun State, was the first wife of the President. But President Obasanjo and the woman have been living separately for many years.

Some of the president's estranged wives are Major Moji Obasanjo (retd.), Taiwo Martins, the twin sister of top politician, Kenny Martins, etc. As a result of the president's penchant for using women and dumping them, there has been no legitimate wife in his life since the death of Chief (Mrs.) Stella Obasanjo on October 23 last year.

Divorce seems to run in the family as Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello has also divorced her husband for allegedly using her father’s name to engage in fraudulent activities abroad.

Divorcing your educated wife because you want her to cook your meals. How disgusting.
Re: Obasanjo's Son Files For Divorce by LadyT(f): 12:02pm On Mar 02, 2007
Seun please just because someone is educated doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to cook!  I blame him if he wanted an educated wife would could cook he should of married one!  Shes has obobviouslyas never had any reason to cook so where he thought she would get these skills from I don't know.

Re: Obasanjo's Son Files For Divorce by Nobody: 2:54am On Mar 05, 2007
Enough is enough for these Obasanjo kids. They hold nothing back with the way they talk. Like father like children. Very uncultured kids. Why bringing dirty laundry outside. They just talk like they owned the world. What a shame?

Don't worry, I trust Sun News will clarify things for us. Just give them some time   grin

Why should any woman want to 'save her marriage' with such a man? I'd rather be single, if I was his wife!

Re: Obasanjo's Son Files For Divorce by Beline(f): 4:23pm On May 09, 2007
Why today? Why after seven years before he realize that his wife can't cook, I believe there is more to this story because can't be a reason for divorce when there are solutions around, for instance sending her to catering school.

When the marriage was contracted years ago i said that this is certainly out of love but passion for wealth. Lesson for those that are seeking for money in marriage instead of love

Food is an important part any married man's life! In marriage there are responsibilities/expectations. Unfortunately or fortunately for a woman, running the kitchen is part(if not the most of her responsibility)atleast in Africa. Not been able to cook,on its own may not push a man to ask for divorce, but am sure a woman who cannot cook, cannot also manage the home. I take it that woman lazy! What does it take to cook(NOTHING). if any woman really wants to cook, a few lessons is all it would take. I take it Gbenga's wife was too lazy and the man just couldn't take it. Most men i know(myself inclusive) cannot handle a lazy woman in the house. Just as there are expectations for the woman, there are also some for men, and i would not subscribe to the man not doing his part, so do see me as been bias. Everybody should just play his/her part to make a marriage work.
