Truth is, traditionally, the Fulani's had no trade or handwork. A negligible %age of them were wandering, Stateless, nomadic herders of livestock.

A few settled as beggars or Almajiris in Hausa towns & studied weaknesses of host communities & plotted to turn & bite the ppl that hosted them. That is why today, there is no major Hausa traditional ruler, the fulanis betrayed & took over their leadership 200 years ago.

After the treacherous Jihad, they became slave traders, by attacking depopulating small villages around the plateau & nassarawa states..

The jihad never crossed the River Benue, If they dared to cross, the Tivs would have soundly defeated them in the forest landscape.

If Umar Muhammad is a professor of history. I recommend that he should be stripped of his professorship for giving the public misleading information at a time that feelings are hurt. He needs to be educated on his assumptions.

His claims are rather a revelation of the mind set of Fulani elites. Since they have never being beaten, they can turn a private business of rearing cattle and make it a federal government's project. 

They can also utter incitive comments and go scot free.

Simple questions become complex for them to answer.

He should not divert attention from the issues at hand.

1) who own the cows?
2) who hired the armed herdsmen?
3) who supplied them with arms?
4) if every vote must count, why can't some lives count except cows?

Benue State belongs to the Fulani people by right of conquest. This is because half of the state is part of the Bauchi Emirate and the other half is part of the Adamawa Emirate. Benue is therefore part and parcel of the Sokoto Caliphate. So no one has the right to expel the Fulani from Benue under any guise.
