Kings’ College Lagos Celebrates Outstanding Students by Adesinaayo: 10:07am On Jan 18, 2018
In its efforts to continually promote good attitude among the students, King’s College Lagos on Tuesday, celebrated some of its outstanding students who had made the school proud in the last one year. The event which was held in the school’s assembly hall was used to honour some of the outstanding student who distinguished themselves in 2017. Some of them were the school football team and the African Spelling Bee Champion.
One of the climaxes of the event was the special recognition and presentation to the public, Oluwatobi Mohammad Sheriff, a SS3 Student and the current Vice Captain Academic, of the College who represented Nigeria and emerged the overall winner of the second edition of African Spelling Bee Competition held at Maropeng, Johannesburg, South Africa in December 2017. Sheriff spelt his way through to the 7th round of the contest to emerge the “best speller” on the content involving contestants from 13 other Africa countries.
By so doing, Sheriff won a Golden Cup for Nigeria and a full scholarship worth of twenty thousand US dollar to Monash University, South Africa. To get to this level, he participated at 3 different qualifying competitions under Nigeria Spelling Bee and was selected among the best 10 in Lagos State, the best 6 to represent South-western Region and the best 3 to represent Nigeria at the continental round in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he consequently emerged as the African Champion.
Speaking at the event the Director and the Acting Principal of the College, Mrs. Elizabeth Ibelim said the school still remains one of the brightest lights of the Nigerian education. “We are showing today that, great men of the college remains. Ever since its establishment in 1909, the college has never lost its position as a pacesetter. Therefore we are using this opportunity also encourage the current students to keep the flag flying. The school has a great legacy and this is what remains, so we celebrate the King’s men of today”. She stated
